After a few hours of sheer persistence, I had made absolutely no progress against the entity and decided to take a break. Despite when we first met this distortion creature, it had no interesting in attacking me directly. Which was pleasant to say the least. GG and I strategized and ‘practiced’ combat, making attempts at the creature several times.
I got really close a few times, but so far it seemed like it had been luck and that this was going to be impossible. It was keeping my mind off of other things. Just going into this fight. Failing. Going again. Even if I wasn’t getting anywhere, it sure did feel like exercise.
“This is hopeless.” GG sighed. It was not like she had to put any physical effort into this, but the expression on her face looked as tired as I felt.
“Yeah.” I agreed stretching out my arms and shoulders. “I honestly thought the whole ‘not dying’ thing would make this easier, but it’s definitely not that simple.”
I stood there for a few minutes gazing over at the entity. I paced back and forth as I waited for my wounds to heal… and well my lab coat to magically regenerate or whatever was going on at this point. I stopped questioning my own capabilities with that. GG couldn’t give me an answer either, so there wasn’t much of a point.
“So what are you going to do?” She asked.
“Well I’m going to give it one more shot, then regroup back at the lab to try and find some way to beat this thing.” I picked my scythe up and casually walked toward the limits of the creatures reach. It already noticed my presence and the tendrils began to extend toward me. I didn’t even wait to see what they were going to do, instead I charged for the center.
It cut through me in several spots, but I refused to let it get the better of me continuing my charge. I sliced through all of the tendrils preventing me from moving forward. Wall after wall of built up distortion scattered with the blade. Parts of my body were missing some of it replaced with shadows others just seemed to be invisible but somehow, I could still move so I did. My perseverance and my persistence were all I had at this moment.
When I had finally broken through to the object, it felt like a miracle. Before it even had the chance to defend itself, I slashed through it, yelling at it to ‘f off’ in its own language. Not that it made any difference for me to say that, but it sure was satisfying. I was just so glad this was finally over.
