I felt the pain start to subdue, and the world around me brighten. I opened my eyes seeing trees around me and the bright, fake, light.
I sat up my hand still holding my chest tightly, my breath ragged. I pulled my hands away from my chest and looked down at them making sure there was no blood. When there wasn’t I let out a breath of relief and stood up looking out at the glade. I still couldn’t believe what I saw out these windows.
I began walking as I thought about what I had watched but than I froze. I needed to see if i could really make electricity. I held out my hands and shut my eyes. I imagined blue sparks twisting and spiraling around my finger tips. I imaged all the little sparks flying around. When I opened my eyes I was shocked to find nothing on my hands. It was just the pale skin of my hands. I don’t know why I was so disappointed, of course I couldn’t make electricity. There is no way that I would ever be able to do anything like that. It is impossible and yet I still can’t seem to stop thinking about it.
“Eliza!” I turned around to see Chuck. He was one of the youngest boys but I had learned that he was supper funny and fun to hang out with. He was super nice as well.
“Hey, Chuck. Did you need something??”
“Frypan sent me to find you because it is lunch time and you weren’t there yet and he started to worry about you.”
“Oh, thank you Chuck. I’m sorry, I just fell asleep for a little bit.” I saw watched as he face relaxed a little as he let out a breath and smiled at me. He grabbed me by the arms and began pulling me off.
“It’s okay, but let’s get you to the kitchen.” I let out a laugh as we raced off to the kitchen.
Even after just a few days of being here I already feel more at home. I feel like I have a family and Chuck is one of those who helps. He is like a younger brother that I have never had.
I beat him to the kitchen but waited for him to catch up once we had gotten there. I thanked him again for coming and getting me before he went off to eat and I went to help make the food.
When I got into the kitchen I had thought Frypan might yell at me but he didn’t, he just made sure that I was okay and that nothing happened. I told him that I feel asleep and than we talked about random things after words while cooking. I helped give the gladers the food and I didn’t mind all the attention this time. I thought that it was awesome being able to meet all the people and see what they were like just by the slight talk.
There was one boy though that gave me the creeps. He had dark brown hair that was almost black and then brown eyes. When I gave him his plate he didn’t say anything to me he just looked at me, and even after that I could see him sitting at his table staring at me. It freaked me out.
I asked Frypan about it but he just said that, that is what he is like and not to think too much about it. I did though. I didn’t like it and I couldn’t seem to get his eyes, and how they looked at me, out of my head.
I didn’t let him stop me from having fun though. I continued cooking trying to ignore him and his prying eyes and for the most part it worked. I was able to finish cooking without any more issues. Once I was done I told Frypan goodbye and I headed off to my room. I figured I could go there and find something to do, even if it wasn’t for that long. I just had to find something to do until dinner came.
~ Time Skip~
Dinner came and went by fast. I stayed in my room cleaning and moving things around for most of the time, the other times I just sat on the ground thinking about that dream and trying to make the electricity on my fingers. Then dinner came and I went down to the kitchen and helped make all the food. That boy from lunch was there again and just like before he staring at me the whole time.
I really didn’t know what this guys problem was but I knew that it wasn’t going to be good.
After dinner ended I left again and headed to my room. I sat on the floor looking at the door wishing to myself that it would open and in would wake Minho. Of course I had no luck with it opening so I looked down staring down at my hands resting in my lap.
My mind traveled off going back to when I saw the lightning flying off her finger tips. It was like the electricity was dancing around her fingers. It was so beautiful. I didn't understand how she was able to do it. The only thing that I could think of it that everything I saw was just one big nightmare. None of it was real, all of it just made up by my mind and imagination Everything was just a lie that my mind made up. There was no need to think too much on it because none of it was real.
“Hey you okay?” I looked up and saw Minho kneeled in front of me. His face full of concern.
“Ya sorry I was just thinking about something.”
“Okay well try to get some rest, it’s pretty late.” I nodded at him laying down under my blanket pulling it up so that it was resting right under my nose. “Goodnight Eliza.”
“Goodnight Minho.” the words left my mouth as I let out a breath my eyes falling shut. “Wait Minho!”
My eyes flying open and my body getting up all on its own. Soon I was standing above Minho looking down at him. His eyes were open looking up and me eyebrows pushed together in confusion. “I wanted to tell you that Newt and Alby said I could become a runner and start tomorrow with you.”
“Really?” he sat up scotting back a little, “You would still be a runner after everything that you have gone through.”
“Of course. I feel trapped with nothing to do here all day. I need to get back out there and be useful.”
“Well if that is truely how you feel I won't stop you and I will teach you everything that you need to know for being a runner.”
“Thank you Minho. I really appreciate it.”
“Get some sleep Eliza, we have to be up bright and early.”
I walked back over to my bed and laid down on the ground again. The covers warming me into a deep sleep.
