After properly dragging the confused prince inside, Axel shut the door behind them and followed Kai’s lead into the home. They were ushered to a close-to-the-ground table. It was surrounded by soft cushions, meant to keep the legs of those who sat down at it from hurting. It was not a site either of the well-bred males were used to, however, it wasn't their home so they would deal with it.
Axel deposited Fayt down onto one of the pillows and rested his own back against a nearby wall. It was simply what he was taught to always do. A knight was never to sit with one of higher status than themselves. Something he would forget himself a lot while in Fayt’s presence.
A few moments later, Kai approached with some tea he has quickly made, setting two cups on the table, and brought one to Axel with a rather forced smile.
“So, how may I be of assistance to you both?”
“We are here on the King’s orders to bring the potion maker to the palace until further notice for questioning,” Axel spoke out in a serious, work tone of voice.
Kai shook his head. “Unfortunately, it is just me and my assistant here these days, so if it's my father you're looking for, I cannot help you.”
“We were just told ‘potion maker’. You fit that description just fine.” Axel threw back as he set the tea he was given down in front of Fayt who, despite the water still being hot, drank all of the ones he has given himself. The boy loved tea as much as his sister loved food, which was surprisingly a lot.
“Alright.” The raven-haired male nodded towards the knight. “I'll have to leave a few notes for my assistant for my absence. Is there anything I should be taking with me?”
Axel nodded and pulled out a small cloth bag from inside his robe. “Deposit any herbs stored here used to make any sort of poisons, and all recipes used as well. His Royal Majesty demands there be no more access to such things, at least until after the end of Fayt’s trials.”
He tried to keep things professional the whole time. However, he uttered the last sentence after a bit of wavering. “I will not tolerate a repeat of yesterday…” The knight sent a look towards his prince with a solemn stare that Kai used as well.
The two might no longer got along well with each other, however, at least they shared a single mindset.
“Of course. If you both don't mind waiting here for me, I will get started right away.” Kai stood up and left the two alone in the room.
Axel flicked his eyes back over to Fayt, who had frozen in place after the last part of their conversation. Eyes filling with worry and warmth, the taller male stepped over, leaned down and wrapped the prince into an embrace. “I won't let anything happen to you. I promise.” ‘You're the only reason I'll even tolerate his presence anyway,’ he added in his head.
Right after he had spoken, Axel felt a slight weight against his chest. Was...Fayt accepting this show of affection? My, this day kept on spiraling in unexpected directions!
After a moment of enjoying it, he decided to lift the mood with a little teasing. “Wishing to continue where we left off earlier? In the house of a childhood friend? Exciting… I like your way of thinking,” Axel purred into the other’s ear. Which just rewarded him with the prince leaping out of the embrace and sending a glare to him.
“You! Give a little, and you go a long way! That was just a mistake on my part, will not happen again!”
Before things got more heated, Kai let out a rather loud cough to alert the two of his return. “Am I interrupting?”
Axel shot an unhappy glare to the man as Fayt immediately denied it. “No, nothing! Anyway, that was fast. Do you have everything?”
Kai nodded and approached Axel with everything he was ordered to bring. The knight quickly took the herbs and recipes and shoved them into the bag, sliding it right back into his robe. “Are you ready then? I can't promise you'll be back soon.” ‘Though I wish I didn't have to bring you in the first place.’
“Yes. Let us depart then, shall we?” Kai turned towards Fayt and smiled. “Looks like I'm in your care, little dove.
Loudly, Axel clicked his tongue in annoyance and yanked the blond away and out of the house before he had time to respond.
The sooner they would return, the better.
