"Are you working?" a single voice broke the silence of the robot's mind as power surged into it's vision and it's eyes opened. All the robot could see was a man, his eyes searching for something in the robot's face.
"Oh! You are there!" he exclaimed as the sides of his mouth curled upwards into a grin that the robot could not quite define.
"You should be able to speak, but don't use your arms or legs yet, I need to properly attach them" he looked into the robot's face for a moment before asking "what do you want me to call you?"
"A-A-Ari" Ari replied, Ari's mechanical vocal chords sounded robotic from never being used before.
"Ari..." Tremblay thought for a moment "nice name, I'll fix your voice box in a bit, so that it's easier for you to speak." He then went over something on his clipboard that Ari couldn't quite see before addressing her again "Are you male or female?"
"F..f..female" Ari managed to say as she powered herself down to recover energy lost from trying to speak and use her vision.
The next time she awoke she was able to take in her surroundings. She was inside what looked to be an aged garage and the walls were covered in papers and sticky-notes, while almost all edges of the room had different work benches. Ari herself was hooked up to a large mechanism that suspended her slightly above the ground. Her body itself was comprised of light metals surrounding wires and sensors. Her main skeleton was made of materials that she had no knowledge of.
She disconnected herself from the machine that was holding her up and stepped to the ground. The entire room seemed to be shades of brown and the only hint of color were two hanging light-bulbs that colored the surrounding areas yellow. Ari set her eyes on a mirror at the end of the room and approached it, she couldn't explain the feeling that made her go toward the mirror, but she kept walking anyways. What she saw in her own reflection were faded blue eyes held inside small black metal beams that resembled cheekbones before coming down into a small yet boxy jaw and chin. At the top of her metal forehead was wavy extremely blonde hair that came a little past her shoulders.
"Are you awake now?" said Tremblay from the doorway out of the garage.
"Yes" she was surprised at how feminine her voice sounded since it was fixed.
"Do you remember anything?" he asked.
"What do you mean?"
"I found your chip and most of your body in a scrapyard, i was wondering if you had a life before now"
As soon as he mentioned trying to remember, Ari's mind began to run through her memories as if a dam just broke on a massive river of unexplained emotions. She put her hand against her metal head as if that would stop the wave of emotions: sadness, happiness, anger, loss. But then she remembered something important, how to turn her skin on to cover her metal skeleton. Ari traced a pattern with her fingers on her left wrist and her body was almost immediately covered in skin, although she then realized something, she was naked.
"Oh!" Tremblay covered his eyes "There's a hoodie and pants on the table beside you"
"Thank you" Ari quickly dressed herself and walked over to Tremblay "Why did you rebuild me?"
