“I owe you nothing.” He stated with a straight face. “Once again, don’t take that personally. But when I offered the new world to you I never forced you, nor did I promise anything to you.”
“How can you say that so calmly?” I asked awestruck with anger. “This isn’t okay!”
“I have nothing not to be calm about.” He stated and then faced me to say, “you know you’re welcome to leave anytime,” before returning to his ongoing stare at the wilderness.
In response I furrowed my brow and crossed my arms. Then I let out a soft sigh and looked towards the wilderness with him. “Who are you?”
The boy shrugged and turned to me. “Who are you?”
In response, I turned towards him and answered promptly, “Rain.”
“Is that who you are?” He asked.
“Well, it’s the name you gave me, so yes.” I answered.
“Have you always been Rain?” He asked.
“No, but… I’m Rain now and that’s what matters.” I assured him.
“So you are Rain because I, the person who you are questioning, decided to call you Rain?” He questioned.
“Yes…” I replied weakly.
The boy chuckled softly. “You don’t know yourself yet. How can you trust anything I say until you can trust yourself?”
“Would you just answer my question?” I grumbled as I felt my head begin to pound with an exhaustive sense of confusion.
“I would rather not like to at the moment. However, I have a proposition for you.” He stated as he looked into my eyes.
I hated staring into the empty void of his eyes after the constant rejection. The emptiness that enticed me into a life in the new world refused to waver. Now, as I questioned everything that had happened in the last four years, the boy who led me to the new world still left me feeling abandoned. I could not save him from his emptiness and maybe he could not save me from my rain. Yet, I nodded in hopes of a proposition that would change this all.
“I propose we spend more time together and, after a fair amount of time, I will begin to answer a few of your questions.”
I wanted to demand more from him, I wanted to demand that he needed to answer my questions fully right now. However, I also wanted to be more prepared before I fought the one who led me to the new world. So I made my decision. “That sounds good.” And with that I decided to research the journal I had absconded with, spend more time with the boy, and then prepare myself for the war I needed to wage.
“Perfect.” He stated with a gentle smile. “Rain, how about I walk you back to our friends?”
I nodded, but then added, “but how about you join us today?”
“Fair request, I think I shall. Probably should make sure Thunder is still on his best behavior anyways.” He stated while pushing off the ledge and standing up.
