Spiraling way down down
Stand in the murky rain-
Let it wash away this bloody town
Seep into the broken fields.
A gasoline fire to sever our ties--
To think a single spark ignited it all.
Allow the wind to blow me away--
Into the storm and into the gutter
A catalyst to the reaction.
I had no idea that in my car
I had a devil in the passenger’s seat
To lead me down all the wrong roads
Temptation at its finest,
Falling into aggression at the wheel
The stages of grief ticking in sequence.
Repeats before the most important part.
The radio plays static--
I sink in the white noise
Let the days become night
The hills grow into mountains
At the end I know we’ll crash,
Or the engine will collapse
Either way I’ll be stuck in this casket
And you’ll leave me stranded.
Through swollen eyelid I’ll watch you leave.
Catch another ride to go anywhere
The gleam in your eye never deferred
As you smile and say ‘hello’…
