Does death have a color? Is it static?
The kind you see when you sleep-
And when you take your last breath
Does it swallow you while others weep?
Or like the clouds of space-
Dust that people look up in wonder.
A drop in an ever expansive void
A place to get lost after surrender.
Is death the color of every memory at once?
As flashes before your eyes; a heartbeat
All the birthdays, heartaches, smiles and tears-
Do they blur and fade or play on repeat?
Or is death the color gray?
The color of powder ash and tombs,
Of trees and snow during winter nights
Of translucent skin and poisonous fumes,
Of melancholy eyes and somber dreams
The lonely moon or clouds growing taller
Concrete wet with rain and tears…
Does death have a color?
