I jumped out of the car the minute the Toyota skidded to a stop at the gates of my school. As I scanned the school grounds for my friend group I noticed Raine and Jacob standing near the gates talking. I rushed over and held my hands over Jacobs' eyes,
"Peekaboo, guess who?" I teased. I felt a smile spread across his face as he pretended to be oblivious of the fact that it was me,
"Erm, Cassy?"
"No,"
"Tom?"
"Nope,"
"Raine?"
"She's in front of you, dumbass,"
"I know, I know, Laura?"
"No,"
"Conner?"
"Nah,"
"I give up," he said spinning around, I surprised him by pressing my lips to his in a quick kiss. He stared at me in pleasant shock as Raine giggled and covered her eyes,
"Come on, Olive! I want to see your tattoo!" she said grinning after removing her fingers from her eyes. At those words, Jacob turned a ghostly pale colour and almost choked. I gently squeezed his hand grinning at him, it had to be him, right? I bit my lip in thought as Raine tugged on my arm,
"Show us, Olive!" she said excitedly. I pulled a small smile and lifted up my shirt sleeve revealing the hidden tattoo. Raine gasped and oohed at the beautiful tattoo while Jacob turned even paler.
"Jacob?" I asked, "What's wrong?"
"N-nothing." he stuttered, "I think we should get to class," he muttered turning and practically sprinting through the school doors,
"What's up with him?" I asked Raine, she shrugged and we walked into the school. Immediately I was bombarded with our other friends who all demanded to see my tattoo. I laughed and showed it off to them relishing in the attention. But in the midst of it all, I did not notice a couple of Jacobs friends looking at each other uneasily once they noticed my tattoo and Jacobs absence. The rest of the day went by smoothly except for occasional whispers and uneasy looks from some of Jacobs friends and their girlfriends. By lunch, I had enough,
"Ok, what's wrong!" I said angrily staring at all the members of our lunch table.
"What do you mean, Ollie?" Raine asked confused, she was in the middle of eating her home-packed PB&J.
"You guys, (I pointed at Jacobs friends and their girlfriends) have been giving me odd looks all day and I want to know why. Now!" I added when they sat there silent for a while,
"You see-"
"It's a bit,"
"Complicated, you could say,"
"'Cause, erm-"
"Guys, shut up! I can tell her myself." Jacob said a trace of anger in his tone.
"Jake?" I asked. All he did was pull up his shirt and then I could see it a tattoo on his left hip, not his left arm, but his left hip. A shock trilled through my body, it was a yellow and pink Franchipenny circled with two black snakes, their eyes bright red,
"No, no, no, no!" I shouted tears streaming down my face, the cafeteria fell silent, this had happened before, couples breaking up over the tattoos, they all felt slight sympathy while Jacob stared at me unapologetically.
"I was going to dump you anyways," he said, when I fell silent he continued,
"You were so clingy, boring, you have no fashion sense neither do you immerse yourself in social life. You were only good for kisses." My eyes flew open as well as the entire cafeteria and my friend group, even his close friends were surprised at this, gasps and words of outrage were sent his way as he calmly sat back down and turned to Conner his closest friend, only to see that Conner had moved away from him holding Laura, his soulmate, hand tightly. He stared in shock at Jacob his mouth flapping open and closed furiously but no words came out. Raine slammed her hands flat on the table,
"You, Jacob Kitch are the most disrespectful piece of sh*t I have ever had the misfortune to meet! Go to Tartarus (Raine was a bit obsessed with Greek mythology.)!" she screamed. At this point, tears were continuously streaming down my face as Cassy, Toms girlfriend, Gianne (otherwise known as Gigi), and Laura all moved to immediately calm me stroking my back. Raine continued to use her Grecian swearing on Jacob as I reached forward my hand lightly caressing Jacobs' cheek, he stared at me in shock at my action, just as he was about to move away, I raised my hand high bringing my palm across his face, slapping him hard.
"I hate you, Jacob, never forget that," I said softly but somehow, I think that the whole cafeteria heard me, he held his hand up to his cheek where a red imprint was already forming.
Then I left the cafeteria with my head held high.
