Episode 2: I miss you

I stared at him and I didn't know what to say. He looked pretty serious about it and his eyes sort of watered up and turned red. Like an idiot, I just stood there and said nothing it could have been a whole 5 minutes. Finally, I responded and asked him something I regret so much.

“Since when?”

That's the only thing that I could think of asking at that moment and even today I regret it. Since when had he been gay I thought to myself. I had never seen Zayn look at a guy or date a guy. I remember how Zayn's facial expression changed when I asked him that. He grabbed his bag and walked away, and I just watched him until I couldn't see him anymore.

The next day was different though he still spoke to me and I still spoke to him it was like nothing happened the previous night. But by the end of the week, everybody in my school knew Zayn was gay even the teachers too. Things were different now, but I didn't want it to change our friendship. That was unavoidable because once he left things were not the same.

He never came home for summer breaks when he left but he always texted me during summer sending pictures of the city he lived in now with his mom’s sister. The distance was there but the connection was still there. His parents traveled and visited him almost all the time and when they came back, they brought me gifts that Zayn had specifically chosen for me. The distance was there but the connection was still strong.

*beep beep beep*

“Huh, who's calling so late at night?” Evan said with one eye open, “oh it's zayn he's never called me before!”

“Uhm hello,” Evan said half asleep.

“Hi!! Evan, it's me,” Zayn said excitedly.

“I know it's you Zayn. You never call feels weird hearing your voice,” Evan said excitedly.

“I know,” Zayn said, “do you want to video chat?”

“Uhm.......well sure but I have to dress up first,” Evan said while quickly getting up to look into his closet.

“Okay okay, I'll wait. And put on something nice will you?” Zayn said while trying not to laugh.

“Haha very funny,” Evan said while throwing on a plain red shirt.

“Okay I'm ready you can switch to video mode now,” Evan said as he combed through his messy hair.

“Hi again,” Zayn said with a smile on his face.
