EP 3: Heart to heart

“Well, school has been getting really tough. So I have been studying a lot. Plus since you left I haven't had time to play soccer as much. So me and Alvin usually just hang out at the arcade. I didn't do anything for my birthday this year besides eat cake and get money from my parents. Oh, and remember Sheila apparently she's dating a senior at Lake Crest High so all the guys who like her are pretty upset. Oh, and Winston if you remember him got a scholarship, again! That guy is too smart. Besides that, I just stay home or hang out with Alvin.”

“Interesting but your life's boring without me now. I was your only friend,” Zayn said teasingly.

“Hahaha that's true,” Evan said laughing loudly, “But I have Alvin at least.”

“Oh, I see. Whose Alvin by the way?” Zayn asked seriously.

“Well, he's a friend of mine. We are in the same class. He transferred here from Delta high some months back. He's pretty cool and a huge soccer fan you guys would get along well I think,” Evan said excitedly.

“Hmm, okay,” Zayn said uninterestedly.

“So, how's the school that side?” Evan asked blankly.

“It's okay, I guess. The nuns are strict, I have to hide my phone all the time. There's a great soccer team here though and I'm hoping to become team captain in next semester's tryouts. But ... I do miss you sometimes though,” Zayn replied.

“Same here,” Evan replied quickly.

“Same here what,” Zayn asked.

“Same here as in… wait are you trying to get me to say it?” Evan laughed, “I'm not gonna do it!”

“Okay,“ Zayn said seriously.

Evan felt a bit awkward in the situation. He felt as though Zayn was pushing him to say he missed him too. He really did miss him but something about saying it out loud sounded so wrong like a heavy confession. He avoided eye contact and took a deep breath in...

“I miss you too… there I said it. Happy now?” Evan said shyly.

“Yeah very happy,” Zayn said with a bright smile.

“I have to go to bed now Zayn,” Evan said in a low tone still feeling embarrassed about telling Zayn he missed him too.

“Look at you turning red,” Zayn said with a smirk on his face. “Okay get some rest and I'll talk to you tomorrow.”
