“His type? Who exactly is he?” I asked.
“His name is Cayden. He always hooks up with the new girls at work. Even I've done it with him but he pursues innocent girls like you even harder.” Myah replied.
“Well you don’t have to worry about that, My. I know I would never fall for a guy like that. And besides, I have Andy!”
Myah narrowed her eyes at me. “Yeah, yeah, but for how long? Andy is totally boring and you know it. You’re honestly just leading him on at this point.”
I frowned and folded my arms. “Just because you dislike him for being a football jock doesn’t mean he’s boring. Andy’s really sweet and I’m happy with him.” *for the most part* I thought to myself.
Myah rolled her eyes and slid further down into her desk. “Whatever you say, Anna.”
The next day
“Whew, don’t be nervous, Anna. Myah said I basically have the job, the interview is just a formality.” I thought to myself as I walked in to the Christian Chicken. I sat down at a booth and a blonde man in his fifties slid in across from me.
“Well hello there, you must be Anna! My name is Stuart and I am the general manager here at the Christian Chicken.” Said the man almost too enthusiastically.
“It’s very nice to meet yo-”
“So Myah already vouched for your character and we are really short on people at the moment.” Stuart cut me off. “Can you start right away?”
My eyes widened, “Er, yeah, sure, of cour-”
“Great!” He exclaimed cutting me off again. “Just one more thing, what church do you go to?” He asked.
Oh, crap. Myah didn’t say they would ask about that. I mean, I used to go to church as a kid but I’m not really the religious type. Oh god Anna, are you really about to lie about church? You’re going to hell.
“Ummm, the church of Christ?” I muttered like it was a question.
“... Fantastic! Follow me.” Stuart lead me behind the counter to introduce me to the rest of my coworkers.
“This is Susan.” He pointed to an older woman in heavy blue eyeshadow. “Hello sweetheart, welcome to the family”. She smiled.
“This is Catelyn and Beth, they’re part of our dynamo drive-thru team along with Cayden, but you’ll meet him later, he’s grabbing some things in the back.”
Catelyn ignored me completely and Beth looked me up and down while folding her arms. “Oh Cayden is going to LOVE you.” She spat.
“Speak of the devil, here he is!” Stuart exclaimed.
I turned around to see a tall, brunette guy probably around college-age. He sat down the boxes that he was carrying and scanned me up and down with his eyes. He walked closer to me and held out his hand to shake mine. I shook it.
“It’s nice to meet you, Anna. I’m looking forward to working with you.” He smiled.
