“You watch any new movies, Rhyne?”
Isa perked up at the question. After all, sitting on the dashboard of a police car for nearly fifteen minutes in traffic was mind-numbingly boring. The one driving the car was human Officer Smith, or Jerry, as he insisted everyone called him. Decent on most days, even if he was a bit insensitive.
“No,” Isa shrugged, staring out the window. The sun had gone down half an hour ago, but the moon was partially covered by incoming rain clouds. “The screen is too big at the movie theatres for me to watch.”
Smith snorted. “Ahh, right. Forgot most monsters don’t watch movies.”
Before Isa could turn around and make a comment, Jerry continued: “But yeah, there’s this new cartoon kids’ movie about animals living in a big ol’ city. Specist propaganda, some people say. But the main character’s a bunny cop.”
Isa frowned. She was starting to get why Jerry brought it up. “... And?”
“Well, she kinda reminded me of you,” he said offhandedly, not looking at Isa. “Fighting the good fight against all the ‘predators’, exposing the discrimination in the police workforce... You are the only fairy cop in the force.”
... Right. “There’s only one werecat officer at our station too,” she mumbled, trying not to sound too annoyed.
“Yeah, but that makes sense! You’re fighting the good fight by pursuing a career not a lot of your kind usually do!” A pause. “... No offense, Rhyne.”
Isa just stared out the window. “... None taken.”
