As we all power walk into the throne room, we saw Nephele and Athamas on their throne with Ino below them. The hall, a beautiful room built with glistering stones reflecting off the sun. "Aries, Helle, Phrixus, come greet our guest," King Athamas said. I lead the twins near Ino and greeted with a bow, "A pleasure to have you here, Lady Ino." The twins bowed copying my words.
"Oh, you must be Aries, a son of Poseidon," she said with a bright smile.
I stood up meeting her eyes with no smile. "Yes."
"And you two must be..."
"You're a guest and you don't bother to know our names?" Helle said with a harsh tone.
"Oh, I'm so sorry! It's because I just arrived a couple minutes ago."
"Could've asked anyone in the mansion." Helle countered with a harsh whisper as she turns her head aside.
"I apologize on her behalf Lady Ino. She's still young and is still learning," I spoke.
"I'm Phrixus, and my older twin sister is Helle," Phrixus answered in a soft tone.
"Nice to meet you, Phrixus, Helle," Ino voiced, her smile not reaching her eyes.
"Ino will be staying with us for a while so be nice to her," King Athamas said.
"Of course, sir," I answered with a slight bow.
As I got the twins back to their room, Helle angrily shout stomping her feet, "I hate that lady! Did you see the way she looked at us!"
Wow, who would've thought Helle could be this smart when she just met Ino. I guess that was rude of me...
"Helle, calm down," Phrixus said. "It can't be helped. She is a guest after all."
"A guest? Yeah right! She had those eyes that think the world revolves around her!" She's not wrong.
Phrixus held his hands up to stop his sister rampage. "Helle, calm down."
"How can you say-"
"Helle!" my sudden shout stopped Helle's voice. "You need to calm down. Now is not the time to worry about Ino. You have lessons you need to attend as a princess of this nation."
She frowns. "...okay..."
"Please watch over her, Phrixus. I have to go to my training." Phyrix nodded as yes before I left them.
As I began my training with a spear in my right hand, I saw Ino walking around looking lost. Do I want to go help her? Too late, she saw me. I walked up to her and asked, "Is something wrong, Lady Ino?" I asked her.
She then stared at my upper body looking up and down. A smirk soon appeared on her face as she lingered on my bottom half. "Yes. It seems like I've lost my way around this new place," she explained with her eyes lustful.
Taking a deep breath, I stare her down. Kindly. "Where do you need to go?"
Her smirks then turned to a soft smile. "To Phrixus and Helle's room. I want to apologize for earlier again."
"No need to. I'm sure they know you meant no harm." I answered with a smile as fake as her's.
"But I-"
"I must apologize, I need to go back to training." As I turn around, I can feel her staring.
"Aries, you shouldn't wear something like thin like that in front of a lady."
Turning to her, I dropped my fake smile, "You shouldn't have come here knowing that it was a training ground in the first place then." Turning around, I didn't need to see her face to know that she was pretty angry. It was boiling like hell.
Continuing my training session, Ino turned around and left the training ground stomping her feet every step. I gave a little smirk as she left and speared the dummy in front of me.
By the time I finished my training, the twins were done with their lessons. I went to their room to see how they were doing only to feel the heavy atmosphere. Helle was still pouting with her chin on the table top and Phrixus trying to lift her mood. Letting out a sigh, I walked over to her and commented, "You're still angry at her?"
She huffed. "Of course I'm still angry!"
"Don't worry Helle, I got revenge for you." Petting their heads, I took a seat next to them.
Helle turned her head to me asking, "What did you do?"
After telling them about what had happened between me and Ino, Helle burst out laughing. "That's what she gets! Ha! Trying to look at Aries while he's training, she's a hundred years too early to even try!"
"Guess she's in a good mood now," Phrixus stated with a soft smile.
I then got up from my chair and Phrixus asked, "Are you going somewhere?"
"Yeah. I gotta check with Nephele about something," I replied.
"Can I come along?"
"Me too!" Helle claimed.
"Sure," I responded.
As I entered Nephele's door, I knocked. "It's me, Aries."
"Come in Aries," she said. Entering the room with the twins, Queen Nephele saw her twins by my side. "Oh, Helle and Phrixus came with you?"
"Yeah. They insisted on coming."
I then sat on the table with Nephele as the twins sat on the bed playing with their toys. "So why is Ino here?" I first asked.
She let out a deep sigh and answered, "I'm pretty sure she came here for Athamas."
I frowned. "What makes you say that?"
"We got a notice came two days ago; it claimed that an oracle told her to come here as a wife of Athamas for prosperity." The twins stopped playing around and looked at us with shock.
"And he agreed?" I blurted with disgust in my voice. It just came out that way.
"He said to let her stay a few days and see how it goes."
So that's a yes then.
My eyes sadden at the bags under the queen's eyes. "Are you okay with all of this, Queen Nephele?"
"I don't think I can do anything now that she's here." Her voice a sad tone. The twins knew right away what to do. Taking each side of their mother's body, they hugged her tightly with sad frowns. Helle called out 'mom' as tears started to erupt out of her eyes. Phrixus's eyes were glaring at the wall, filled with determination. This scene filled my heart with warmth but heartache for this family that I protected physically, but couldn't mentally. That was the first time I'd ever seen Phrixus's glare. It was deadly.
"Don't worry, I'm sure she won't stay here for long," I stated with a tone of uncertainty. I don't know how to respond to situations like this!
Soon, those days turned to weeks. The weeks turned into months. Slowly, I could see Athamas personality changing. Every day, he would stay with Ino at all times flirting with her. Avoiding his duty as the king and spending his money on Ino leaving his queen behind to deal with everything. The king that once invited me to drink tea with them was now gone. The kind king that loved his citizens dearly was now inviting prostitutes to dance with him every night. Where he would sleep with him like he was the only man alive.
One night, Phrixus sought out Ino, meeting her outside in the battle area at night in front of the moon. "Phrixus, my darling, do you need something from me?" She asked in an alluring voice.
"What did you do to my Father?" He declared with a harsh tone.
Ino put her hand over her mouth dramatically. "Why, I did nothing."
"I know what you're up to! You're just a lying woman who's trying to use the king."
"No. It's because an oracle told me to come here or-"
"Your lies won't reach me! I will protect my family at all cost against a woman like you!"
Her sweet face then turned serious. "You're right, I am a woman. But you are only a child. I can do what I please as long as I want to."
Phrixus snarled at her. "No. As long as I'm here, you won't be here for long."
"I would love to see that." A wicked smile formed on her face.
"What's going on here," I said with a sharp tone.
Ino turned around with tears almost in her eyes, "Aries, I was trying to have a proper talk with Phrixus and get along with him despite everything that's happening! But, but he kept on saying that I'm not needed here!" She rushed to hug me with her body in her all too exposing nightgown.
"That's not true-" Phrixus shout. Tears started to come out of her eyes as she clutched my clothing with her body touching me. Ew. Having a 30-year-old woman who flirts around with men is not what a 15-year-old boy like me imagining their life to be like.
"Lady Ino," I said as I look down on her with a smile. Did I mention, I'm pretty tall? She looked up at me with her teary eyes. "Phrixus is not the one at fault here. It's you." That smile turned into a deadly face as I gripped her hands off me.
Ino quickly jumped out of my grasp and countered, "I should be getting back to my room." Watching Ino zoomed out of here like the speed of light, I let out a breath I didn't even know I was holding.
"Are you okay, Phrixus?" I asked as I walked to him.
"How did you know I was here?" He questioned.
"I knew you were gonna do something like this and so I followed you here."
"Thank you for saving me."
"No need to, I didn't do anything. You, on the other hand, did a very good job tonight."
"You're not mad?"
"Of course I'm mad, but at the same time, I'm seeing you grow up. You made her drop her ugly mask and turned her serious for the first time. But! You can't be doing this dangerous stuff anymore, okay?"
He smiled slightly. "Okay."
"Now let's take you to your room."
The next day, Ino was back to her original face. She stayed by Athamas's side while Nephele stayed by ours. "What's happening to Father. It's like he's a different person," Helle declared with her eyes sending daggers to her.
"It's because of Ino. She's the one changing Father," Phrixus said, also glaring at them.
"Mother, shouldn't you be by his side?"
"I tried, my baby. Every time I did, Ino is always interrupting me and separating us," she replied with a sorrowful face.
"But Mother-"
"Helle, you shouldn't try to pressure your mother. We'll find a way to get out of this situation," I replied glaring along with them.
"Aries, would you please teach me how to fight and defend myself?" Phrixus said all of a sudden. I was shocked at first but responded, "We'll start tomorrow then."
"No. Today. Tomorrow is too late. I want to start training now!"
Such strong passion burning in his eyes.
Letting out a sigh, I answered, "How can I say no to your determination?"
I then started to train Phrixus and Helle with Nephele by watching. Doing things simple like showing them how to evade a punch or a weapon and defending themselves. It was simple but it took time for them to learn it completely and master them. "I hope nothing bad will happen in the future," Helle muttered with a worried face.
Having each other to practice on, Helle quickly threw Phrixus over her shoulder and slam him on the ground. Hard. Guess she's still angry after all. Despite her anger, she learned the moves pretty fast and perfected them throwing even me to the ground. Pyrixus, on the other hand, is fast on his legs. He was able to evade most of my attacks and escaped easily.
The next day, King Athamas claimed Ino as his second queen. "Father, when did you decide this?" Phrixus expressed to him in the throne room.
"I've been thinking about it for a while now," he replied.
"But Father-"
"The servants have already started with the preparation. You should be too."
Rage fill my eyes as I glare at the third empty throne made for Ino. Even though it's the third throne, it's the most luxurious and eye-catching throne with gold all around the head. The arms draped with crystal stones and carvings of gold.
Back in the twin's room, tension filled the room with anger. "How can Father just marry someone like her!" Helle shouted as she bangs her fist on the table.
"I don't think it's King Athamas," I claimed. The twins turned to me with confused splattered on their faces. "I mean, he must be under some kind of spell since I can no longer see light in his eyes." Literally.
"That must be it!" Helle got out of her chair. "How do we break the spell?"
"I don't know. If it's actually a spell then I gotta find a way to undo it. In order to do that, I gotta go to--"
"Mt. Olympus," Phrixus finished for me. I nodded as yes.
"When are you leaving?" Helle ask.
"Not right now. I'll go when I know I can leave you two behind without a worry," I explained.
That night, we attended the coronation with Ino in the ballroom. We were surrounded by nobles and guests from Ino's country as they mingled happily. The twins stayed by the side the whole time. As Ino walked down to her throne in a dress with jewels shimmering brighter than the lights around us, she grinned at us and I glared at her responding. She stood at Athamas's left side while Nephele stood at his right wearing a baby blue dress with golden details and a golden crown over her forehead. Claps and chattering filled the room quickly as the party started.
Standing no more of it, the twins and I went outside. Letting out a loud sigh, Helle commented, "Great. This is my worst nightmare."
"Don't worry Helle, I won't let this nightmare last longer than it needs to," Phrixus said.
I then pat both of them on their head and smile at them, lifting my head to see the dim stars, I gaze upon the lights from the gods above. Hoping for them to watch over us.
Years went by as I trained the twins and myself. It's been three years and the twins are now 14, almost 15 years old, while I'm 19-years-old. The twins got more mature and older. Phrixus got stronger and Helle developed more patience in her. But King Athamas seemed to be getting worse, along with Nephele. The King Athamas that I knew is no longer here. If I wait any longer, I won't be able to save them at all. The twins had grown and know how to protect themselves now. It's time for me to leave.
"You're really leaving?" Helle asked.
"Yes. You two are strong enough to watch over yourselves and your parents now," I said to them.
"Don't worry, I'll protect them at all cost," Phrixus claimed.
"You two grew up so fast and I'm proud of both of you. But remember this, time on Mt. Olympus run slower compared to the human realm. So if anything happens down here, make sure to call my name."
"You have to promise to make it back for our 15th birthday," Helle acclaimed.
Tears started to swell in Helle's eyes. "I promise I will," I said petting both of their heads.
I then shifted to my ram. "Goodbye. For now," I said to them. They said their goodbyes and hugged me wishing me luck before I left to the sky. Flying higher and higher into the sky, I wished I could make it back in time before anything bad happens.
