“Well, I regret to inform you, Ms. Evans, but your scholarship is officially revoked. There is, however, another option,” Adam was still talking but I had stopped listening. I tried to tune back in. “The program would give you a full scholarship as long as you participated in the assigned activities.”
“Wait, what?” I interrupted him, no sense pretending I was listening.
“The DSP program.” he looked at me curiously, “Were you listening?”
“No,” I could feel my cheeks heat up, “sorry.”
“No worries. So, as I was saying the Dedicated Student Program will cover your tuition and housing costs as long as you participate in the activities and extra assignments.”
“Oh wow, ok,” I was stunned, to say the least.
“So do you accept the terms of the deal?”
I studied Adam for a second. Something was off, his smile was too big, he was too eager. “What is it, Adam?” He was starting to make me nervous.
“Nothing, I’m just really glad it worked to get you into this program.”
“Ok…” I shifted in my seat.
“Join the program, Claire. It will get you through college and it might even open up some opportunities in the future.”
“Ok, I’ll join.¨
¨Welcome to the rest of your life.¨
