If this is going to be like my job now, then I should probably start small. I don’t know if I would call an armed robber small, but I didn’t really give myself a choice. What exactly is small anyway? A missing puppy?
Ok never mind, I’m just going to take whatever comes my way. But the question is, where? Been to London, not ready to go back to China yet… hmm, perhaps America? Let’s face it, it won’t be hard to find crime there. I believe the average crime rate was 386 per 100 000? That settles it.
I'll go all around today, get some miles in; my aim is at least five cities. First up; New York. 'Cause that isn't stereotypical.
I end up in Times Square, on top of one of the numerous billboards with bright, flashing colours. I guess this is a good viewpoint, but perhaps I should move to a seedier suburb. And promptly get lost. Worst case scenario, I teleport back to Times Square to get my bearings. I should probably transform before I head off.
The chill doesn't cease, and I look down to see an even skimpier outfit! I have silver heron pants, and a sheer shirt where you can see my torso and bra, which unnervingly, has changed too.
I travel across rooftops, glancing at the people and vehicles below me. I encounter a couple of people up here, who just look at me and let me move along. After a couple of minutes, I decide to settle down and wait. I should probably brush up on some spell so I'm ready when a crime starts.
On top of the shield spell, I know how to create a fire whip (which I've practised with a LOT), and I've stocked up on potions that increase agility and flexibility. I'm not given much time to do so however. Soon I can hear police sirens coming this way. I throw back one of the potions and set off running.
I came upon a familiar scene. A robbery, but this time, there are police surrounding the building. As I get closer, I see that one of them has a megaphone.
"Sir, for the last time, we ask that you release the hostages and come out with your hands behind your head! You have five minutes!" Ok, that gives me five minutes to see if I can get the hostages out. I teleport onto the roof of the building, which looks to be some kind of accounting business. There's a roof entrance to my left. It's thankfully unlocked.
I creep down the stairs to the second floor, waiting before the door to see if I can hear anything. It's quiet. I brace my shoulder against the fire door and push it open to see a floor of empty cubicles. The hostages must be on the first floor.
A sound of a gunshot rings through the building, pulling me out of my inspection of the office. Shit. Don't tell me he's killing the hostages?!
Stealthiness pushed aside, I run across the office floor to a set of stairs, and jump at the sound of another gunshot. A voice drifts up the stairwell.
"Whoever’s up there, better get down here, before I come up there and shoot you in the fucking head!"
Take a deep breath, you can do this, you have magic, you can totally stop him.
"Don't try to be a fucking hero, you'll get someone killed!" Outside, I hear the announcement of three minutes left, which spurs me on.
With renewed courage, I began to run down the stairs, teleporting once I catch sight of a man in the centre of the room, holding a gun. Some gasps can be heard; guess I've been spotted.
He's wearing all black, complete with the ever cliché ski mask. He spins around, hearing me run down the stairs, gun raised.
"The fuck?" He mutters after I've teleported, seeing no-one there. I turn up behind him, eliciting more gasps from the hostages, and kick him in the back, sending him tumbling to the ground. His gun clatters to the ground and slides away. He fumbles, attempting to get up, but I plant my foot on his back, firmly pushing down. He lets out a grunt.
"Bitch!" I shrug my shoulders.
"I've been called worse." Not really. I gaze around the room, assessing the situation. There's three exits, the front entrance, the stairs to the second floor and a fire door. There is also large windows dotted around the room, their natural light not quite reaching where I stand. A quick count tells me there's about 17 people here, excluding myself and the criminal at my feet.
"Everyone, leave through the front entrance, to the police. They should be there waiting. I'll bring this guy through in a minute." The group hesitated at first, but soon they began streaming towards the door, crying put to the police outside. "That's my cue to leave. But what should I do with you?" The man beneath me whimpers. "Relax, I'm not going to hurt you." Hopefully.
I grab the book out of the air, and it opens to a page on pressure points. "Let's see here." I look at the diagram before pressing down on a point on the man's neck. His body goes limp. I bolt out of the room as the police burst into the building.
Safely on the roof again, I take the time to drink another potion before leaping to another roof, to go back the way I came to flew the scene. Shouts and the occasional camera flash could be heard beneath me as I pass overhead.
Several minutes later, I slow down to a walk, and drop into an alleyway between two buildings. And almost landed on top of someone. Two someones. A boy and a girl, similar looking enough to be twins. Both sported looks on their faces. They probably didn't expect anyone to drop down on them from above. Shock quickly turns to excitement, however, as the girl bombards me with a 'Oh my god, Silver Witch, this is so cool. We're like your biggest fans! We actually tried to catch you at the robbery earlier, but you left! Can we ask some questions and get a picture for our blog, The Silver Scroll?' I blink dumbly while processing, before nodding meekly.
They're certainly... enthusiastic, to say the least.
One city down, four to go.
