Shattering Shadows

Chapter 02 - Part 02

Chapter 02 - Part 02

Feb 27, 2019

As I take a few steps forward, I notice the table that has the commotion is the one with the young nervous intern male. Currently, he was standing with a pile of napkins in his hand as he quickly tried to wipe up spilt coffee that poured over all of the sheets of paper scattered around the table. To the side of the table is the waiter who is apologising over and over again while also trying to wipe up the mess by picking up the broken shards from the coffee cup.

"Sir, I am so sorry, please sit down and I will clean this, no need to worry about the bi-"

"It's ok, please just leave."

"Please sit down, Sir I will clean this up and get you a fresh c-"

"Just leave, you are making it worse!"

"I am so sorry, Si-"

"Just leave it alone, would you?!"

I am now at the other end of the table as the waiter hesitates and stares at the young man with wide panicking eyes. She gulps and takes the little bag of shards she collected before scurrying off.

The young man starts dabbing the spilt coffee again with shaking hands. I can see slight tears welling up in his eyes as his hands start shaking more, low voiced curses flowing out of his mouth and he tries to calm himself, unsuccessfully. As gently as I can to not startle him, I place my hand on his shoulder, he jumps and looks at me with wide eyes before turning back to the mess, trying to discreetly shrug my hand off.

The man is pretty close to my height that I can't tell who is taller of the two of us. He has a slightly bigger build than I do. I, myself, have a swimmers build, but since I don't work out too regularly, my muscles aren't too defined, hidden by a light layer of fat that I am not too worried about. I am naturally fit that the extra skin never bothered me too much. This man though, although he has a similar though bigger build to me from what I can see behind the baggy suit, his muscles are hard and strong, and that's only going by the feel of my hand on his shoulder. The feel of the muscle seems to contrast against his soft facial features that give the impression he is small and delicate.

Not giving him the satisfaction, I tighten my hold on his shoulder slightly but enough to get his attention again. "Take a deep breath and sit down," I say, my cold and commanding.

His eyes snap back over to me and I notice as I study his face properly that they are a light shade of grey. They look blue upon the first glace but the more you look at them, the less blue they look. His messy raven hair is pulled back as he drags his free hand through it before he takes a deep breath and sits back down. My hand remains on his shoulder as he lowers himself, and I lean over slightly to take the piled up napkins from his hand to toss them aside. As I go to the counter, the waiter who I am guessing spilt his coffee is watching us wearily. I ignore her as I grab another handful of napkins and make my way back to the man.

He is now sitting stiff and ridged as his hands are clasped together gripping each other tightly. His lower lip is pulled into his mouth as he chews on it rather roughly.

As I approach closer to his table again with a blank expression, his eyes snap up to mine before they lower again, a slight red tint spreading across his facial features. I stand to the side for a moment watching him, internally figuring out why the hell I am helping him, and how to continue.

"How important are these files? Have you a digital copy at least?"

He takes a deep breath before nodding his head quickly while also shrugging. "I have a digital copy but, all of my editing notes over them are wrote by hand on these files along with my boss' notes wrote by hand on them also. They are quite important but... not much I can do now."

"Ok, forget them for now. Hot coffee spilt onto you, and given the state of your suit as it is, you could have easily been burnt. Take these and wipe yourself down, having a panic attack won't save your work or your sanity." I say and I try to keep my own cool. I never talk with strangers and normally give them the cold shoulder yet here I am trying to help this guy out.

He looks up at me from his seat with wide eyes that I almost 'aww' at before taking the napkins and wiping the excess coffee off of his suit. I stand there, watching, unsure what I am actually meant to do now. I look around for my sister and see her sitting down at our table again with an amused, evil looking smirk on her face as she watches me. She gives me a wink and points to the man alongside me. As I look back towards him, I catch him just in time as he starts to lift his shirt up slightly to wipe off the coffee that seeped through.

I feel as though I am put into a slight trace as I watch his movements in slow motion. I thought his shoulder was strong and muscular, that has nothing on the sight I am currently seeing. Tanned and toned abs, more defined due to the residue of coffee soaking them, slowly becoming dry as the napkin wipes it away. It seems like a lifetime before he tosses the napkins on the table and shifts his eyes up towards me. No matter how hard I try to mentally snap out of it, I can't take my eyes off of him. He suddenly drags his shirt back down, face taking an even deeper shade of red and he lowers his eyes although he does let out a breathy chuckle.

I quickly avert my eyes and clear my through before giving my head a rough nod. "Well... Good luck with your work. Goodbye." As quickly as the words came out, I am spinning on the heals of my combat boots and turning around to make my way back to my sister who has an even bigger smile on her face.

Before I even get even 5 feet away from him, I hear his voice call from behind me. "Wait... Uh, Thanks, um..."

I don't turn or make any movement to face him for a moment too long. I feel like I'm trapped in confused turmoil, trying to decide if I should introduce myself. Not many have ever bothered to find out more about me, or else they already knew and avoided speaking to me for longer than possible.

Eventually, though, I turn my head slightly to the left to look over my shoulder before I call back "Jameson."

There is a short silence as I hold my breath, silently hoping to hear his name also in return. Although it feels like the silence drags on, I finally release a breath when I finally hear his name.

"Revon."

BL between 3 males.

An outcast. A loner.
A young man with walls built so high that only those he deems worthy can pass the hidden door.

Jameson Clark O'Hare is an unusual, mysterious young man to those who don't know him, but really he is a shy boy who longs for love and has much of it to share with the right person. Maybe too much for one person to handle.
But how is he meant to find this person when he is so closed off from the world, too scared to let anyone new in?

Dragged into an unexpected blind date, Jameson's life takes an unlikely turn, and he gets more than he ever imagined.
