Shattering Shadows

Chapter 04 - Part 01

Chapter 04 - Part 01

Mar 02, 2019

The smile that is showing on my sister's face makes my stony expression simmer slightly as I mentally smile in content watching her. The moment Julietta laid eyes on Summer, she brightened up and engulfed her into a large hug. They are both now speaking animatedly to each other about god knows what. The other people attending have barely got a word in with the Artist since my sister managed to grab her entire attention.

"You know, when I asked your sister to find someone to go on the blind date, I never would have expected someone like you."

I drag my eyes away from Summer to look up at Ellis with a questioning look. "Why? What is 'someone like me' ?"

"No offence intended, at all. I had mentioned quite a bit about my friend to Summer. I am guessing she told you? You come across as very reserved and guarded, not easily approachable. But also like you are hiding something behind that maybe? I may be completely wrong with my people reading skills but that was simply my first impression of you. And with how this guy is, I just don't know, I'm wondering how you both will click if it were to happen." He says as he watches me with an odd expression. I try to keep my cool at how accurate he got my character, well, half of it.

"Before I comment, and since my sister only told me the bare minimum about this stranger, would you care to share? I have already told her that if it is someone I do not see myself being comfortable around then I will not waste their time. I can try and ask one of my friends who I know are interested in men but I can't guarantee it of course." I state before looking back at my sister who has put some distance between herself and Julietta, allowing the girl to mingle a bit, though they do keep locking eyes every now and then.

"Care to walk with me? I'll tell you as much as I can but I don't want to share too much, there wouldn't be much point in the date otherwise now would there?" I eye him for a moment and give a nod for him to leade the way.

We walk around admiring Julietta's work in silence but Ellis eventually guides me to a seating area near the back of the room.

"Ok, I had to think about how to describe him before I say it. Firstly, I know I may be making a big deal about some silly date, using your sister to give me a favour in return for this. But he is really a great guy. He is 25, a very close friend of mine, and a very hard worker. A couple of years ago, he went through a rough time, which is not a story for me to tell, but since then, he has become quite nervous, jittery, anxious. I know they don't sound like great traits but that is why I was quite surprised when I described him to your sister and she brought you. As I stated already, I may be wrong about you but... he is sensitive, and although he hides it, saying he only needs his friends, and he is happy, I hoped that by setting him up on this blind date with someone who may match his personality, that he might break away from his nervousness and relax a little, have some fun. So I expected someone who comes across as approachable, open, kind... No offence, you seem like a great guy but I just worry that he might get more anxious around you. I just don't know if that will be a good or bad thing."

I take a few moments to ponder over his words. I don't take offence to how he speaks about me because I know he is only being cautious for his friend, and also going off on how I push myself to come across, I don't blame him. Should this guy manage to be someone I do find myself interest in enough to show my true self naturally, I feel like I may be an ideal match for him. It sounds like he needs love and attention from someone who isn't simply a friend, he needs security. And that is something I would love to give to the right person.

As these thoughts go through my mind, I start to think back to my interaction with Revon. He sounds just like Ellis described. Nervous, jittery, anxious, a hard worker. Even with all that is going on, between the arguments with my sister and this event, the lead up to the blind date, that little interaction I had with Revon this morning is still implanted freshly in my mind.

As Revon's face appears in my mind, I feel as though I am in a trance, seeing the said man entering through the door of the Art Gallery...

"Describe him, your friend, to me. What does he look like?"

"Oh, well... Dark hair it is almost black..."

Check.

"Um... Tall-ish, about your height I'd say, give or take..."

Check.

"He has blue-ish eyes... I don't know really I never took too much notice..."

They are grey but check.

"He would be seen as tanned, I suppose... Works out..."

Spilt coffee on those tanned abs, bloody check, check check.

"Terrible dress sense?" I ask, eyes still locked onto the figure that Ellis is describing perfectly.

"Yeah? Yeah, he actually does. He tries but he tends to just throw himself together, as if..."

"He is always in a rush? Tell me, Ellis..." I start as I drag my eyes away from man to look at Ellis, who happens to be stating at me strangely "...Did you send my dear, sweet, sister Summer, a picture of this man earlier today when she asked for information on him for me?"

Ellis looks around confused before laying his eyes back on me, he nods his head slowly as he rests his ankle on his knee, watching me with slight curiosity and confusing playing in his eyes. "I have it on my phone, I can get it and show you if you like..."

I chuckle darkly as I whisper, probably loud enough for Ellis to hear, "Bloody witch knew it was him...", before searching for the man in the crowd again. The search doesn't take long as I notice he is staring with wide eyes right back at me already, standing only meters away from the seating area that is occupied by Ellis and myself. "I don't think there is any need for that, Ellis... Does your friend happen to be standing right in front of us?"

I don't take my eyes off of the man, but I notice Ellis whipping his head around from watching me intently to face our new company with wide eyes before jumping to his feet and approaching the shocked figure.

"Revvy, why didn't you call me? I didn't realise you'd be coming to this..."

Ellis' voice trails off as he notices that I'm now standing and approaching them. My eyes have yet to break contact with our new companies and Ellis is now looking between us oddly.

"Um... You guys were meant to meet later this evening but I guess this works too... Well... Anyway, this is..." His hand gestures to the man beside him and before he has the changes to say his name, it's already coming out my mouth in a short, amused breath.

"Revon."

He smiles shyly at me, lip going between his teeth, but doesn't break eye contact.

"Rev- wait, what? How? Revon, how do you know-"

"Jameson."

Though my face is still blank, I can't help the slight quirk to the side of my lip as I hear him say my name. What are the chances of my blind date for tonight being the one who occupied my mind all day? And poor Ellis, the look on his face is split between disbelief, amusement and also devastation. Probably a little annoyed that he wasted a favour from Summer on finding Revon a blind date, only to discover we have already been acquainted.

"Jameson and I, we met earlier today at a café. And... Well... Thank you again, for uh... calming me down, helping me. I really appreciated it." He says as he gives me a small smile before extending his hand towards me. "And also, it is nice to officially meet you. Even though it seems we would have met eventually it seems!"

I can't help but chuckle as I take his hand in mine. We share a small shake but neither of us let go. "There is absolutely no need to thank me, it happens, and I was happy to be there to help you. And... Also, the little show I got was thanks enough!" I couldn't resist teasing him a little, and I smiled even more as his face flushed instantly. He tried to slip his hand from mine but I gripped it slightly tighter, refusing to break contact yet. "It is nice to officially meet you as well, Revon..."

"Brown... Revon Brown" His hand tightened slightly in mine and he started to worry his lip as he said his full name, staring at me with worried eyes. Although his name rang a bell in my mind, I pushed it aside and gave his hand a comforting squeeze back.

"Jameson O'Hare."

He relaxed instantly and just as he was about to take a small step closer, a large arm wrapped its way around my shoulder, the other wrapping around Revons. "Well, wasn't that all... cutely intense. I am quite glad you two lovebirds have started your song but, we are at an event. Time to mingle you two, admire the art! The reservations for tonight are still there if you both wish to continue this later." I look up at Ellis giving him a deadpan stare in annoyance before untangling myself from his hold. Similar to when he caught my hand in his earlier, I feel like the pressure is cracking my wall.

I take a few steps away before glancing back at the two others, Revon is still in Ellis' hold, looking up at the taller man while talking in a low whisper. He looks my way and catches my eye. I give him a small smile which he returns before I turn on my heels and begin my search for my sister.

I eventually find her speaking with Julietta, both of them linked at their arms and looking at one of Julietta's pieces on the wall. As I approach them, I clear my throat and stare expectedly at my sister, before looking at the woman attached to her hip.

"Oh, Julietta, this is my twin that I told you about, Jameson! Jamie, this is Julietta but of course, you already know that. We were just discussing this piece of hers, she was trying to explain it to me but, you know how I am at reading art, that is more your area of expertise. Never the less, they are still beautiful!"

I raise an eyebrow at my sister before giving Julietta a small nod "Its a pleasure, I've followed your work for quite a while and I must admit I have always been quite impressed. I have yet to have a look at your newest additions but I am sure they are just as good, if not better than your previous work. I am still in shock that I finally know who the artist behind them though, nothing changes given your social status but it was a secret I never expected to know of!"

She smiles at me in thanks before looking at my sister "He is much more polite then you described, I thought you said he was the evil one?" I snort loudly at that before coving my mouth with a cough. Summer just sends be a silent, threatening glare whereas Julietta just smiles back at me. "It is a pleasure to meet you also, though Summer and myself have not spoken too much, she did speak highly of you, but not to worry, I can see who the true evil twin is" She smiles brightly as she watches Summer out the side of her eye, who is currently looking down slightly flushed. Julietta slowly raises her hand to Summer chin and raises her head up to face her. "And it is the evil twin that has my fancy."

If I could capture Summers flustered state without the worry of being poisoned to death, I would do it in a heartbeat. Julietta is taller by about 3 or 4 inches, with Black as night hair, dark brown eyes and smooth almond skin. She pulls my sister into her hold even more than previous and eventually looks over at me with a sly smirk, sends a quick wink before whisking my sister away towards another painting of hers.

Before they get too far, Summer turns back to face me. She sends me a small smile before looking into the crowd. I follow her line of sight and my eyes fall upon Revon. "Told you, there probably wouldn't be any need for a blind date..." And with that, she carried on her way with the taller woman linked close to her.

I stand there shocked for a moment, but soon I curse myself for not putting 2 and 2 together. I shake that thought away and start to wonder more about my sister and Julietta. Although I suspected that my sister had an interest in this woman, I wasn't too sure if it was anything more than friendly. She never had showed interest in other females, only males throughout her teenage years. But, then again, it may be similar to my views on my own sexuality. Or else it is just Julietta. Who knows.

Shaking my head and mentally wishing the best for my sister as I see her relax up against the taller woman, I start my own silent walk around, admiring the work spread out throughout the gallery, thinking about another black haired person.
