My moment with Revon didn't last too long, and before I could enjoy and cherish our second kiss, a loud bang on the door causes us to break apart.
"Revon, may I remind you that you're still on the clock? Get your ass out here!" A deep voice calls from behind the door.
Groaning as he rests his forehead against mine, Revon calls back that he'll be right out. His breath fans across my lips, adding to the tingle that remains there after our kiss. Any kisses that I've shared in the past always carried no effect with them. There would be this empty feeling. No tingles over the body, no hardening in the boxers, no passion lying in its path. Though, when it was with Ignacio, sometimes my groin to heat up with a fiery sensation and my member to become instantly stiff. That would depend on how deprived I had been from releasing prior, more often than not, there would be no aftermath to the kiss.
Yet, I can't ignore the difference there is with this experience. Although the sensation in my lower region is there, it's not as intense, regardless of how long it's been since I've allowed myself release. The strongest feeling I have is within my chest. The tightness clogging up my lungs, making it difficult to breathe, resulting in my head to feel light. Shaking hands that desperately ache to cling onto the man in my arms. A shiver running through my spine, reaching the base just as my legs quiver with weakness.
The new feeling is so intense that trying to ignore it and push it aside is almost impossible, but I manage to hold myself together when I notice Revon having a similar reaction. His hands clutching my shirt tightly as he releases shaky breaths.
For such a short kiss that we shared, the feelings poured behind it are more than I imagined. All of the tension that was between us after a weird and strange beginning to this relationship was released within the kiss. And though it's now left us both breathless, it was still like a breath of fresh air. For not knowing him that well, only spending a few hours together in total, it scares the hell out of me that he can affect me this much already. Usually, a couple will spends days upon weeks learning the ins and outs of each other, wanting to know the fine details before indulging themselves into a more defined relationship. Go for dinner, drinks, constant text messages. But for Rodney and I, it's as though it wasn't needed. There is just something that clicks, and no matter how much I look, I'll never find out why. What scares me most is the lack of resistance I've had with him. It feels as though his warm smile and large expressive grey eyes look straight past my border and reach out to me. Calling me to trust and join him.
Never have I spent time away from someone who I wasn't close to, and miss their presence as much as I did with Revon.
Raising his chin up slightly with a finger, I lean in to give him a light kiss on the lips, cherishing the small moan escaping him. "Come on, let's get this over with and after, you're spending the rest of the day with me."
A rapid nod and large smile are what I receive in response from Revon. His grip tights as he looks me in the eyes, large grey orbs staring back at me with so much happiness. He visible shakes as if he's ready to burst with how happy is but leaves go of me to rush out the door after his boss. The childlike behaviour has me more than amused causing me to smile silly to myself for a few moments as I try to gain some composer.
Back in the dining room, Rodney, Charles and Revon are all gathered around the table looking through the files. Rodney's eyebrows are furrowed as his faces shows distress and confusion. Charles is looking at him with the same fondness as always when his eyes are laying upon my friend. For some reason, he seems a lot more relaxed and less business serious compared to last week. Revon, though he is looking through the files, the same large smile remains on his lips. When the trio takes notice of my arrival, Rodney gestures me over to them. Although there are many seats available for me to take, Revon discreetly kicks the chair to his left out in a clear invitation to sit alongside him. And even though he continues to look through the files before him, his smile grows even larger when I take the offered seat and a light blush covers his features.
"Jameson, Sugar, this can't be right..." Rodney blurts out, drawing my attention away from a blushing Revon to my friend. "That's impossible! I know Tracey found the evidence of one additional employee on the payroll who doesn't actually exist... And I was aware that there could be the possibility of more... But ten? That can't be right... I have a close connection with all of my staff. I mean, ok, I know I don't deal always deal with the payroll but I hire them, so surely I would have noticed this! " The look in his eyes as he stares into mine is hopelessness. And I don't blame him. Although he has five stores, he doesn't hire that many employees, but those with employment get paid more than well. So the addition of ten more names on that list, not to mention the promotion in pay raise they've been receiving, his loss in money is quite large.
"I'm afraid it's true, Spice." I start gently, knowing my friend is about to combust with stress. "The only piece of information I couldn't find is who added them there. Whoever it is, is the one taking the money I would believe. As you can see in the notes, there is usually a signed contract, with the name of the employee and the individual who hired them. Your name is on one of those ten. The rest are signed by that one in which you signed. Getting those was not easy but the document is needed in order to add them to the system so I knew they were out there somewhere."
Rodney continues to stare at me, as though my face will give him all of the answers or tell him that I'm lying about all of this. He visibly relaxes though when Charles places his hand on his shoulder and tries to whisper softly, yet fails since his voice is so deep, to breath and calm down.
"From what I can see here and know about your company, Mr Roads-" Revon starts but gets cut off by an amused snort.
"Oh please, don't Mr Roads me, darling. If what happened back there in a poor dead woman's bedroom, god rest your soul Ms French, is what I'm thinking and it probably is going by that lovely shade of red you are wearing, then you've more than earned your right to call me Spice, boo." Rodney interrupts, being a lot more extra than I think is necessary. His eyes are sparkling with delight despite his sour mood only moments ago.
Though Revon flushes under Rodney's glistening gaze, he discreetly links his fingers with mine that I hadn't even noticed found their way onto his lap.
"Right... Spice..." He starts, caring a quick look in my direction as if gauging my reaction to him using my nickname for Rodney. I squeeze his hand in response letting him know that I don't mind before he continues. "As I was saying... Surely the individual who managed to get you to sign this contact off would have been a close colleague or someone you trusted. Who is it that deals with the payroll?"
"Um, well, its done through a computerized system, Charles recommended it, actually, so I always trusted it... Each of the staff gets paid weekly and that's monitored by their managers, whereas the managers get paid monthly, and it's I who monitors theirs and check in when I remember to on the other pay-slips sent out . And well..." He stops for a moment, looking at Charles out of the corner of his eye, eyebrows furrowing slightly. "...and yeah, that's it." He concludes, falling silent with his eyebrows even more furrowed. He seems as though a thought has crossed his mind and his taken all of his attention. Due to his hesitation, my mind wanders back to the employee that used work there but was let go by who he said was Jane, Rodney's fíance. I brush the thought aside before it can manifest though. I know that Jane and myself don't get along, but I don't want to allow my dislike for the woman to cloud my judgement. This is one reason why it's rare for us in Eye-Q to work for relatives or close friends. We become too attached and biased.
Charles glances at both Revon and me, hesitating slightly. For a man who had so much to say last week, he has yet to utter a word and seems to be a lot more fragile when dealing with my friend. I ignore him, more concerned over my friends change of mood but before I can voice my concern to him, Charles places his hand upon Rodney's shoulder again and gives it a light squeeze. The small touch seems to snap Rodney out of his thoughts and he immediately straightens up in his seat, smiling brightly at us. "You know what? I think that's more than enough for today... I'm sure we are all quite tired after that, so I'll look into it more myself and figure it out. After all, it is my baby to protect." Smiling between all three of us who stare back confused but more worry coming from myself. Maybe even a little bit from Charles.
Revon stands first, his hand braking from mine as I stay seated, staring intently towards my friend. Charles follows suit, more reluctantly but manages to keep himself stone-faced as he slowly gathers his files and briefcase. They both stop at the head of the table once they have gathered themselves together. Revon looking at myself, Charles looking at Rodney. We both ignore them though as I continue to watch my friend, who stares back with eyes begging to let it go.
Although it hurts slightly that my friend won't leave me in and help him, I'm more concerned that he is going through this alone. I struggle to ignore the thoughts that question his trust in me. Should I trust him so much when it doesn't seem as though he can trust me? What is he not telling me? Are there more secrets that I don't know of? Why does he feel the need to put a wall up around me when he's one of the few I let my wall down around? But as hard as it is, I manage to block them out knowing this isn't the time. This is about Rodney, not me.
"Revon, I'll meet you outside, I'd like a quick word Rodney about something," I say directed to Revon though I never take my eyes off of Rodney. The latter sighs in defeat but since I am watching him closely I notice the short nod in Charles' direction.
Both men leave soon after, not before giving a small goodbye to Rodney.
