Therra's Myths, Legends, and Adventures

Ep5, Great Kirin

Ep5, Great Kirin

Mar 04, 2019

These creatures wield elemental power that rivals that of the greatest of elementals that live upon the elemental planes. These creatures are purportedly so large that they dwarf cities and can carry mountains upon their backs. When angered the very thought of their rage causes cataclysmic events. And by merely existing they can change the natural order, hierarchy, and nature of the creatures that dwell nearby. And finally, they are immortal. Time holds no sway over their lives because while the other kirin have some a connection to the other elemental planes, grand kirin are direct pathways and the elemental planes themselves are forever.

But where did they go?

Despite their stature, size, and mystical abilities these creatures are but a whisper and a rumor — millennia after millennia, nothing. No sightings, no contact, not even a poem of exaltation. These creatures are at best myths and worst complete lies.

Some say quite merely; they are dead; beings of a bygone era whose time has passed. You would expect that a creature of that size would not go unseen for long. But then we would likely have skeletons or some other form of proof of their prior existence.

Others speculate that they never existed at all. After all, back in the day kirin were things of myth themselves. Great kirin, creatures in stature and power below the grand kirin were already quite powerful and some quite massive. Their elemental powers are unique and at times theatrical.

And then others state, they sleep. They use the extent of their powers to secure themselves from view fully. They watch and wait for a time when they decide to leave their self imposed solitude.

I believe they exist, tired of a world that holds no interest or uniqueness. Every day, every life, every wonder holds little meaning when you have seen it all and so instead of watching, they wait and sleep, until one day when the world has something that catches their interest.
