Part 2: after class ended
Amya began walking out of the class. All the students leaving to go home or to their clubs.
She headed to her locker, Kim following behind, talking about class and how much she hated the work and how annoyed she was at the teacher or students. Once she got to her locker, she opened it, grabbing anything she would need before going home. Stepping back, she shut her locker, but a loud thud echoed through the hall before she could take another step. The building shook as students began to shout. Everyone ran to the door, some trying to leave.
Pushing past everyone, Amya looked out the doors, but she could not see anything.
For several minutes they all just stood there waiting for something to happen. Soon a few of the students got annoyed and opened the door stepping out. Following behind them, Amya stepped out. She watched as several students looked back at the school before letting out a cry and ran back into the building.
Turning around, Amya looked to the school, her eyes going wide as she looked at the large beat sitting on top of the school. The creature had deep blue wings, the wings running black the farther up they got, extended out beside it.
It was a dragon! She screamed in her head.
The dragon looked down at her, its eyes the same golden color as her own. When it saw her, it let out a clicking sound from its mouth as it began moving. She dragon stepped off the school, standing above her. Slowly the dragon lowered its head until it was level with her own.
Hello, Amya. A voice rang out in her head. She looked around, terrified, trying to find the source of the voice. Do not worry, it is only me speaking. You are my master, and I will protect you.
She looked up to the dragon understanding what was going on.
He was her bond animal, and she was his owner.
"What is your name?" She asked, looking at the dragon, standing no more than 10 feet in front of her.
I have no name. I have been waiting all these years to meet you. Please give me a name.
"Very well," she said before thinking of everything she could name him, "Khal, your name will be Khal."
The dragon, Khal, made the same clicking sound as before. She could tell he was happy. Lowering his head farther, she reached up and began to pet him. He was cold to the touch, but his scales were smooth and almost shinned in the sun. The fear she once felt in her heart was no more. It had been replaced with a feeling of comfort. She knew that her mother was right. She felt as if a hole in her heart had been replaced and filled.
"Amya!" Kim screamed, running over to her, pulling her away from the Khal. "Are you alright? Did that...thing hurt you?"
"I am fine. Khal would never hurt me." She said as Kim's eyes widened, realizing what she meant. Backing away, she began to shake. Amya felt a pain in her chest watching her best-fried act the way she did. "It's alright, Kim, he would never hurt you."
"I'm sorry, but I can't." She said before taking another step back, "I'm sorry,"
She watched as Kim went running back into the school, tears falling out of her eyes. Amya could feel tears falling out of her own eyes as she looked back at Khal. She could feel the sadness of losing a friend.
"I'm sorry, Khal. I am sure she will warm up to you soon. She just has to get to know you." She told him, knowing that it was a lie. It would be a miracle if Kim would ever speak to her again.
Khal nudged her hand, trying to comfort her.
"Mama, put your hands up and walk away from the dragon!" A gruff voice shouted behind her.
Slowly turning around, she saw more than a dozen men with guns raised. She quickly put her hands up as she looked at the men, unsure what was going on. Her mind went black as she looked at the guns aimed at her.
"Step away from the dragon, and walk away slowly!" She did what they said, taking a step forward.
Amya, be careful. Walk backward slowly. I will protect you. Khal reassured her.
She stopped moving. The men's fingers flew to the tripper as she took a step back in fear.
"Mama, come this way, please. We do not want to harm you."
They are lying, Amya. Keep moving back.
"Who are you?" She asked.
"We are soldiers from the Bond Animal Committee. Your bond was not ready to be sent out, and we need to take it back for some more tests." They told him.
She felt inclined to believe them, but she would not let them take Khal, especially after she had just met him. She looked at them and noticed none of the soldiers had moved to lower their guns despite telling her they would not harm her.
"Amya Willams! Step away from the dragon."
"No...How do you know my name?" She asked, confused.
"Your father worked on this committee and knew how important this was, but he betrayed us and hide the information about you." The soldier told her.
She felt the blood drain from her face as they spoke. Her father knew about this. He knew about all this, and he had not told her anything. His gift made so much more sense now—a dragon for the girl whose bond was a dragon.
Amya on three-run and hide behind me. They are growing impatient and will not withhold to shot you.
"You have left us with no choice then," the soldier spoke.
One.
"Two!"
Three! Now Amya. Khal yelled. She quickly darted behind him. He let out a roar sending water in front of them, using it as a distraction to lift her up and onto his back.
She could hear the sound of gunshots filling the air along with screaming.
Hold on tight, My Lady. Khal said before taking off into the air. She let out a cry grabbing onto a spoke on his back. They were flying up into the air as bullets flew past them.
"Why are they shooting at us?" She cried in panic.
They want me dead and know that if they kill you, I will die. They are going to kill us both. I will keep you safe, so please trust me and hold on.
"What about my family and friends. I cannot just leave them behind."
If you do not want them to die, then we must leave. They will kill anyone to get what they want. We cannot go back for them, or else they will be in more danger.
She opened her mouth to speak before shutting it. She wanted to say goodbye. She tried to tell her mother about what had happened, but she knew that Khal was right. It would only put them in danger. She did not want to see any of them die of getting hurt. There was nothing she could say that would change Khal's mind, and she was certainly not going to put anyone else in danger.
The moment they pointed their guns at you, my master, they declared water on us. All of us.
She didn't understand what he meant, but she understood his bitterness. If they had killed her, they would have both died. She could feel herself grow upset thinking about how they tried to kill them. She was upset that they had put her and those she loved in danger. She wanted to save her dragon and her family. She was going to protect them and show them that she was not evil.
They ha declaimed war on them, and the events that followed would be because of their actions.
