The roar echoed though the wall of the cave. No one had entered the cave in years. Everyone too afraid for what they might find. Now they had no choice, they must send their strongest into the cave and face whatever lives within.
Julien's thick mess of long brown hair blew in his face as he stood at the mouth of the cave. He grinned triumphantly with his hands resting on his hips.
The clicking of his sword in its sheath rung out echoing in the cave. He looked behind him and the village below the mountain. The large village in ruins and fire. He looked in front of him and stepped into the cave, one foot at a time. Making his way deeper and deeper into the caves.
"Hah! Foul beast!" he bellowed. "You shall oppress us no longer."
The entrance of the cave disappeared behind him and he was engulfed in darkness, and to his surprise there was no sound from the beast. Instead he was greeted with a dripping of water into a puddle, and his own footsteps. He continued walked no knowing where he was going or what he was going to find but he was going to kill it no matter what.
"Come out foul beast so that i may slay you!" he called out listening to anything that would show that the beast was near.
His eyes soon adjusted to the darkness, but he was only greeted by and endless maze of corridors. His nostrils filled with the musty air. Never the less, Julien strode forward.
He entered the first corridor, the air must and smelled of mold but he continued. He walked down the corridor coming face to face with another set of corridors all just as dark and musty as the last.
He didn't know which way to take but he didn't really care he continued forward down the endless corridors leading to who know where.
Finally, he entered a large open space. Julien could not see the walls of the cave. Stumbling forward he stretched his hand outward searching for a grip. Suddenly the room was bathed in a wave of light. The creature stood in the center of the endless room. Somehow it's body emanated the light, momentarily blinding Julien.
Once the light had dimmed down he was able to make out the creature that stood in front of him.
It was a huge beast. A dragon.
Its scales were a bright gold, that seemed to glow, and its eyes red. Julien grabbed his sword ready to fight the beast when he saw her.
Julien brushed his tangled hair from his face, staring at the girl perched on the dragon's golden back. The dragon growled louly, but the child quieted it with a nudge of her hand.
A hard voice escaped her lips, "You dare face the goddess of this realm?"
Julien stood shocked at the even in front of him He expected to find the monster but never thought there would a child sitting on top of it. He took in a breath, "I have come to slay the beast. Come with me and I will keep you safe and away from this place."
"You really think I would leave my home and go with a low, petty human like yourself! You have no right to even be speaking to me!" Her voice was strong and filled with power. She looked down at him her piercing glare which sent a chill along his spine.
His hands quivering in silent rage, "Why, Goddess, would you send your beast to attack our villages? Our woman and children have been slain. Do you have no regards for human life?"
Her glare losses up, her head flying back ans she let out a laugh. She was giggling and laughing at the confused man standing below her.
When she had calmed she looked down at him again a tear in her eye. "I have regards for the humans but your village has forsaken me? You no longer obey me, no longer pray and respect me and for that you must pay!"
She slid down the dragons back, approaching Julien. Her soft hand carressed his face. The goddess's features resembled that of a child, but her eyes had witnessed centuries of heartbreak and pain.
"You abandoned me." her voice was quiet and soft this time. Her eyes sparkling.
Julien's eyes widened, dragging in one ragged breath before he collapsed to the ground. His armor clattered against the rock floor, but that shield proved usless against the touch of a goddess.
