As the day continued, the two sat in the small clearing, talking and laughing like friends. Liam learned more about Eli and how he had been chased out by a couple of bucks when the wolves found him. Apparently, Eli was constantly harassed because he was so small and petite, especially for a male.
According to Eli, it was normal for bucks to pick on runts like him. He had a sister, and a mother too. Eli told Liam about how his father died when he was little, and that his mother was instantly taken by another buck, the asshole that leads their herd now.
On the other hand, Liam told Eli what it was like being a predator, how he was constantly challenged to fights and forced to partake in hunts. He would be lying if he said he hated killing prey, so he simply didn't mention that to Eli and focused more on wolf hierarchy. Alphas, Betas, and Omegas at the bottom.
His mother had died in childbirth so he was the only child of the alpha. Liam's father believed in choosing one mate and one mate only, and when asked if he would ever try again his father would simply smile sadly and say "I had my chance... one day you'll get yours"
As the sun slowly disappeared from the sky Eli had his head in Liam's lap while the large wolf played with his hair and antlers. Every once in a while Eli would look up at Liam and their eyes would meet for a few seconds before Liam would blush and look away quickly. They had started as predator and prey and now there was a friendship between the two, though they both knew their time together couldn't last forever.
The light slowly faded and the forest was turning a gray color in the dim, dusk light. Liam was the first to mention it, obvious sadness in his voice. He wanted to spend more time with the one person who understood him, the first person he's ever felt a connection too "I think it's about time that you head home, Eli... the hunting party should be back at the den by now..." He knew if Eli stayed with him there it would raise suspicion on both sides and the wolves would come looking for Liam. If they came for Liam then they'd find Eli, and Liam wanted nothing more than to keep Eli away from the other wolves.
"Liam..." Eli slowly sat up and turned to face him, he could see how sad Liam was. He didn't want to part with his new friend, especially since he knew the chances of them meeting again was extremely slim. "Can we..." Eli hesitated and slowly leaned forward, gently grasping Liam's hand "Can we meet again... maybe tomorrow..."
Liam smiled and pulled Eli into a hug, being careful not to hurt him. If he could see the small deer again, he could escape from his reality again. Stay in the little corner of the universe the two had together, where predator and prey could be friends. "Of course, Eli... I can't wait." He slowly loosened his grip so the two of them could make eye contact and began to speak again "We'll meet here... at sunrise... I'll be waiting for you..." He let Eli go and stood, helping the deer up once he was on his own two paws again.
Liam watched the deer for a moment, ignoring the pounding in his ears. He didn't want Eli to go. He didn't want his deer to have to face harassment again. Though he knew there was nothing he could do to help Eli. It felt almost as if he was abandoning Eli.
"Okay!" Eli gave Liam a big smile and turned away, moving to head off back to his herd when Liam grabbed his wrist. It was gentle and very hesitant.
"Eli... I..." Their eyes met once more and Liam held his breath. He was a bit of a red color and his tail was wagging slightly. It was as if he wanted to say something, but couldn't find the right words.
Eli cocked his head curiously "What's-" Before he could finish speaking Liam pulled Eli close and leaned forward, pressing their lips together. Eli was utterly shocked and just stood there, frozen as Liam kissed him gently. It had seemed to happen so quickly and they had only just met, but... he didn't want to fight against it.
Eli had never kissed anyone before, and he never thought his first kiss would be a wolf. He didn't know if wolves escalated this quickly, but he didn't mind at all. In fact, Liam accepted him, with his tiny antlers and undersized body. So if Liam wanted to kiss him, then Eli didn't mind at all. He was glad someone was attracted to him... that he wasn't completely alone.
As Liam slowly pulled his lips away from Eli's, he looked into the deer's eyes for any sign of fear or regret, but there was none. Only surprise and confusion. "Eli... sorry... I..." Liam looked away and bit his lip, causing it to bleed slightly "I don't know what came over me..."
Eli was silent and just kept the same surprised stare, unmoving. "Eli..." Liam spoke again "Please... say something... anything..."
Eli blinked finally and simply looked down, his expression unchanging "It's okay..." He suddenly blushed and covered his mouth, realizing again what had just happened "I... I didn't mind. I actually... liked it..."
Liam quickly let go of Eli's waist and stepped back. He couldn't believe what was going on, but it was best to just try to leave while they were on a good note... it would be bad if he embarrassed himself. Unfortunately, Liam was so flustered he just ended up tripping over his own feet and falling flat on his rear. "Ah! I'm... well... you should probably head back then!" He said quickly in a loud voice, his face a bright red color. Good job Liam... super smooth.
This sight simply made Eli giggle and he knelt in front of Liam, enjoying the wide-eyed look Liam had, before he leaned forward and placed a kiss on Liam's forehead, through his bangs. Was this what he was supposed to do? No one had ever shown interest in Eli before so he wasn't exactly sure.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Liam..." Without another word, Eli stood back up and began to walk away again, the image of Liam's red-colored face staying in his mind as he made his way back to his herd. He couldn't wait for tomorrow. Maybe Liam would kiss him again... maybe? ...hopefully.
On the other hand, Liam had to sit there for another moment, going over what happened in his head before he scrambled to his feet and ran the entire way home. In the head of the confused, hormone-induced wolf was several questions on what had happened? And why was he so happy?
