Chasing Tail

Mar 15, 2019

The door opens and Jaime is standing there in a pair of jeans and a hoodie. "He-Wow! What's up with your outfit?" He says looking up and down Aiden's outfit.

Aiden frowned, "What do you mean?" he looked towards me when I started laughing so hard that I couldn't breathe, causing me to wheeze, "What's so funny?"

"No-no-nothiiing," I gasp out, bending over, trying to catch my breath.

Jaime shuffles in the doorway, "So uh, come on in, " He opened the door wider and I walked in with Aiden on my tail.

Jaime closes the door and turns to us, "Everyone's kind of everywhere right now."

Aiden looks around and asks, "So uh, is there a specific routine were supposed to be practicing?"

Jaimes brows furrowed in confusion, "What do you mean?"

Aiden returned his look of confusion, "Well isn't this a-" he cut himself off when he looked at me covering my mouth, trying to hide my grin.

"Isn't this what?" Jaime asks.

Aiden glared at me, "Nevermind"

After a while of the three of us just standing there, Jaime brought up Aiden's outfit again, "So, you a dancer or something?"

Aiden smiled and proceeded to lie through his teeth like nothing, "Yeah, I'm with a local ballet production across town. We're performing Romeo and Juliet," he looked at me with the intensity of a lion hunting its prey, "I'm Romeo."

This seemed to gain Jaimes attention, "Oh cool, I'm actually a theatre major. What theatre are you performing at?"

Aiden doesn't say anything for a moment but eventually settles for, "Oh, it's not like a real theatre, it's just a little production my friend wants to put on. None of the details have been worked out yet."

Jaime continues to ask Aiden questions about the ballet and how long he's been dancing, but I quickly grow tired of their conversation and walk around the house to find a familiar face.

It takes a couple of minutes, Jaime's parents are very well off, so in turn, they felt it necessary to buy him a three-story house that he'll only live in for four years. But, that's rich people for you.

I finally come across a familiar face in the loft upstairs, Sally. Although I don't know her very well, we did have a very intense 10-hour study session right before our biochemistry final. So I felt comfortable enough to walk up and say hi.

I walked over to the couch she was sitting on and attempted to start a conversation.

"Hey, how's it going?" Ugh, what a stale way to start a conversation. It's like a sure fire way to stunt a conversation, people always respond with 'It's fine' I mean how the fuck do we go from 'It's fine'

"It's going good" Well that's just another way of saying its fine.

"Cool cool, so uh," I stalled, "I heard you were going for your masters?"

"Oh yeah, It's going pretty good" You've already said that I wanted to point out, but I didn't, because I'm a nice person or whatever.

The conversation falls off and we were left sitting in a very uncomfortable prolonged silence.

That is until Aiden and Jaime walk into the room I'm in and come over to us.

"Hey, so like I don't know if you actually wanted to study but Aiden and I thought it would be a good idea to go and get something to eat. You in?" Jaime said, sitting down between Me and Sally, thank god. I don't remember her being quite this boring. But then again we spent most of our time studying and not doing much else.

"Yes, that sounds great. Where did you want to go?" I was desperate to leave Sally's presence.

Jaime looks lost, "Oh I guess I didn't think that far yet." He turns to Aiden to get his opinion on the matter, "Do you have a place in mind?"

Aiden thinks about it for a second, "Why don't we go to that Italian place down the road, I passed it on the way here, Cappriotis or something."

"That place has really good pizza," Sally chimed in. No one asked you.

Jaime stood up, "Alright so it's settled, the four of us are going to the pizza place down the road."

I perked up at that, "Wait, four?"

"Yeah, you, me, Aiden and Sally. That's four."

Sally perks up at that, "Cool we can all go in my car>"

"No," I say, albeit a little too aggressively, "I meant that I left all my stuff in Aiden car so it's better that I go with him."

"Why can all go in Aiden's car then," Jaime suggests.

Aiden shakes his head, "no can do, my car's a two-seater. You and Sally can her car, me and Katie will take mine. We'll meet you there."

alright so it's settled, I gotta go get my shit so let's meet in like twenty minutes." Jaime wasn't even halfway through talking before Aiden was heading out the door. I followed close behind him. I jog to try to keep up with his fast pace.

"Hey wait up." Once we're out of the house Aiden stops abruptly and I run right into his back. I take a step back holding my now throbbing nose.

"What the fuck dude?" Aiden asks angrily

"What?" I say, pretending to not know what he was talking about.

"You know what I mean, you let me walk around looking like a complete idiot."

"Hey, I didn't say you had to do it."

Aiden scoffed, "Uh yeah you did"

"Hmm, I don't remember anything of the sort," I walk over to his car and get in, "Come on let's go."

Aiden gets in the car and starts it, "Alright but first, I'm going to change,"

I chuckled, "And where are you going to do that? There's no room in the car. You should've done it back at the house."

Aiden frowned, "Shit" He pulled over onto the side of the road and gets out of the car. He walks around to my side of the car and leans into the window, "Hand me my duffle."

I lean back and grab the duffle, "Here you go."

Aiden takes his outfit out of the bag and starts to undress, I finally catch on to what he's doing, "Wait, dude, you can't do this here."

He looked up as he slipped out of the tights, "Why not?"

Why not? What do you mean why not? Were in public, someone could drive by and call the police or something."

"It isn't going to take me that long to change pants, calm down," Aiden pulled on the jeans he was wearing before we went to the mall, "see look already done."

Aiden walks back around the car and pulls back onto the road. It takes no time for us to get to the pizza place, and before I know it we are walking into the restaurant with me regretting ever thinking spending this much time with Aiden was a good idea. I just wanted to go home and sleep.
