Over the next two weeks, Kyran kept joining the group in lots of their things, like Johnathan's chess games, Robin's basketball matches, and…whatever Erik usually did at his house alone. He even had his own avatar in their recess game. It almost seemed like he was a part of the group.
Almost.
On Saturday morning, Jacquie opened the door to Robin's house and saw most of her friends sitting at the kitchen table. "Where's Johnathan and Riordan?" she asked.
"We don't know," Daniel said.
"Well I know if I have to wait another 5 minutes, I'm gonna go straight to their houses and drag them here myself," Robin shouted.
At that moment, the doorbell rang.
"I'll get it," Erik said.
Erik opened the door and Kyran rushed in with Johnathan and Riordan right behind him.
"Hey guys," Kyran said, seeming casual and carefree. "I've got something to show you."
"What is it?" Riordan questioned.
"This," Kyran said as he pulled out a small wooden box with gold and purple symbols on it. Kirna, Maize, and Jacquie all felt a simultaneous shiver run down their spines.
"What's wrong?" Kyran asked with a gleam of worry in his eyes.
"I've… seen that box before," Jacquie breathed. "In a dream last night."
Maize and Kirna nodded their heads in silent agreement.
"Wow," Kyran said, jokingly. "Maybe you're psychic or something."
"Okay," Robin said, "Now that all of that nonsense has ended, I'd like to—"
"I just remembered," Kyran interjected. "I have to do something outside that I forgot to do earlier."
"Like what?" Erik asked.
"Something quick," Kyran replied. "I'll be back in a flash, okay? Don't open the box while I'm gone. Please." Kyran went out of the door.
"Okay, let's open it," Johnathan said.
"He said not to," Maize mumbled under her breath. No one heard her.
"He said not to," Jacquie said for Maize.
"Guys," Erik said. "If he wanted us to open it, he would have said not to. Which he did. It's called reverse psychology," he finished with a smug face. He then began to reach across the table.
"Wait," Jacquie said. "Let's all open it on three." She put her hand on the box. "One." A few others put their hands on the box. "Two." At that moment, Kyran walked in through the door and saw them about to open the box. "No, don't!" he shouted. He tried to get to the box as the rest of the group opened the box. "Three!" Jacquie shouted.
A flash of colors flew from the box and swirled around above them until they formed an orange portal.
"What is that?" Riordan yelled as the wind from the portal began to roar.
"It's a portal," Kyran said.
"What?" Jacquie asked.
"A PORTAL!" Kyran hollered.
"TO WHERE?" she yelled.
"YOU'LL FIND OUT!" he shouted. Jacquie was about to ask another question when the portal began to draw them in.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!!!" they all screamed (except for Kyran) as the portal distorted their bodies. As soon as everyone was through, the portal closed, trapping them in a new world.
