“Where is that annoying little friend of yours? Where does she live anyway?” Madam Vile asked.
“You don’t need to know where she lives. She should be coming any minute,” Lexy said worriedly. Christine is never this late.
Knock Knock
“That must be Christine,” Lexy said, running over to the door.
“Hey, Lexy, I’m so sorry I’m late. I had to get my stuff together.”
“It’s fine,” Lexy started, but Madam Vile interrupted.
“Hello, Christine, is it?” Madam Vile said. Her tone was dripping with fake kindness.
“Hi, Madame Vile. I’m sorry I’m late.”
“It’s fine Christine. We were waiting for you to come. Would you like to spend the night at our house?”
“I would love to Madam!” Christine turned to Lexy and said, ”Can you believe it? Madam Vile is letting me stay over here!”
“Yes. I see that,” Lexy said in a detached tone.
“What’s wrong?” Christine said concerned.
“Aren’t you a little worried that out of the blue, Madam Evil says that you can come shopping with us and sleepover?”
“Is there trouble afoot Sherlock? Come on, Lexy. Please.”
“Fine. Let’s go,” Lexy tried to sound excited, but she couldn’t shake the oddness of the situation or the twinge in her gut that said something was up.
