as if to touch her

but her body automatically recoils

and, without knowing, she hears herself whispers, “Don’t come close.”

It startles her

hearing her own voice—

echoing

thrumming

vibrating through her bones

hearing the shock to her inner core

despite it comes out

scratchy

and pathetic

and monotonous.
