Night came slowly and Helle sneaked into the cell without anyone noticing. As she looked in the cell, she saw Phrixus sitting on the ground. "Phrixus!" she whispered.
"Helle, what are you doing here?" he said in shock.
"You have to escape Phrixus. Father is planning on sacrificing you for what they think you did to Ino!"
"I can't. If I leave then who'll protect you and Mother?"
"We're leaving with you too! Mother doesn't want to live here anymore and neither do I. Let's escape together." Phrixus nodded his head as an answer without hesitating. There was nothing keeping him here if his mother and sister didn't want to be here. Home was wherever his family was.
Helle then took out the key and opened the cell, letting Phrixus out. "Mother is waiting outside. We have to be careful not to get caught," Helle explained.
As they sneaked past the guards in the cell, they saw even more guards walking around. Phrixus quickly went behind one and grab him from behind and choked him till he fainted. After doing it to some more guards, the twins finally reached the castle where their mother was. "Phrixus, Helle, get away from here!" Nephele shout.
"Mother!" Phrixus shout as he came out of the darkness along with Helle. They then saw their mother surrounded by guards and Ino. "Make sure they don't escape," Ino ordered the guards.
They then dashed towards the twins and they slipped away. Both of them shouting Aries's name at the same time.
~
With wide eyes, I quickly got up and said, "I gotta go, Mother."
She then smiles and said, "Be careful."
Quickly turning into ram, I flew down to the human realm quick. By the time I arrived at the castle, many guards were running around with bloody bodies on the ground. Seeing a spear on the dirty ground, I picked it up right away.
Quickly, I ran around cutting guards as they attacked me. Blood splatter on my face as I look around trying to find the twins and Nephele. "Phrixus!" I heard Helle called out inside the castle.
I quickly ran inside and saw that Phrixus fighting with a sword as guards were cornering them. "Aries!" Helle shouted. I quickly ran over to them and cut down the guards within seconds. "You came back!"
"Of course I would," I replied smiling.
"Stop right there!" King Athamas shouted. Turning around I saw many more guards along with Ino glaring at us. "Do you know what you're doing Aries? You're killing my men while helping that sinner."
"Ha, if they're sinners then you're a demon. Letting yourself get bewitched by a deceiving woman."
"How dare you!" Ino yelled furiously.
"No, how dare you!" I shout as I jumped straight to Ino's face stabbing a guard in his neck. "How dare you touch Phrixus with your dirty hands. How dare you try to kill them. I'm royally pissed off right now, you see?" I quickly took out the spear as the guards came at me. Dodging my left, I speared the attackers on my right, cutting them all down easily. Blood splattered on their clothing and mine covering us in a bloodbath. Before I knew it, a guard ran up to the twins and snatched them away. Sawing her face for a split second, I finished the guards around me and quickly dashed through the rest.
Running out with the twins holding her hand, I follow them before long. An arrow shot through my leg. Piercing through the meat, I stumbled to the floor yanking the bloody arrow out before the guards catch up. The throbbing pain in my thigh weakened my state and lowered my running pace but I was able to keep a safe distance away from the guards chasing me.
Seeing someone dash through the darkness, I came to a stop, preparing to fight as I look at the guard in front of me. Alexios. Clenching my teeth, I braced myself with the spear in my hand. "I'm not your enemy Aries. Go. I got your back," he claimed.
Standing up straight, I met the man's eyes as I saw his truth within them. Turning my head slightly, the guards were soon catching up and they were not stopping. Even for Alexios. "Thank you, Alexios. Don't die!" I yell running past him.
He chuckled. "I'm old. Death is nothing to fear when I'm dying for the sake of my people!" Taking out his sword, Alexios sprinted forward slashing and cutting down any of those who dared to past him. The sound of a warrior exploded behind me as I heard the sound of metal clashing each other.
Reaching up to Nephele and her twins, I stopped to check our surroundings. "Quickly Aries, take them to Colchis. They'll be safe there," Nephele said.
Seeing some more arrows coming from the sky, I cut them all down but some still pierced my body. "Aries!" Helle and Phrixus cried out.
I then turn into the ram and said, "Get on, now!"
Nephele quickly picked up the twins putting Phrixus in the front and Helle in the back. "Wait, what about you, Mother?" Helle asked looking at her.
"I-I can't leave here. I have to stay here by his side no matter what," she whispered with tears in her eyes. "Make sure to protect your brother, Helle. Phrixus, you have to protect Helle too. Both of you have to take care of each other while I'm not there, okay?"
"Yes Mother," they both answered knowing that they could never convince their mother to escape with them. Phrixus gripped my fur tightly as he bit his bottom lip.
"Now go."
Quickly I flew to the sky. Looking back, Helle screamed for her mother as she saw a spear penetrating through her mother. "Aries, we have to go back to Mother! She's hurt!" Phrixus yell through the harsh wind blowing at him.
"I can't. If she died then she going back to Mother Gaia," I answered. "I can only get you two to safety now." Cries of anger and lost ring out between the twins as they wept for their lost mother.
Suddenly arrows zoomed past us. "Hold on tight!" I shouted avoiding as many arrows as I could. Arrows speared through my body creating scars of blood. Before I can react, an arrow shot through Helle from behind. "Helle! NO!" Phrixus shout turning back to reach his sister and holding her tight. Flying even faster through the sky and soon reaching the sea, I finally glanced back to see Phrixus clutching dearly to his sister's body. "Helle, you have to hold on! We're almost there!" Phrixus cried out holding on to her as she coughed out blood.
"I-I can't go on anymore. I'm sorry Phrixus..." she said pushing his hands away from her and plunging straight down to the sea.
"Helle!" Phrixus shouted as he reached for her hand but couldn't. Her body fell down into the sea with a splash of water reaching our ears. Tears and anguish met my soul as I cried in pain along with Phrixus. "Aries, please, we have to get her back!"
I clenched my eyes closed forcing myself to go on for the sake of his safety. How badly I wanted to dive into the water and searched for her. "I can't. As much as I want to, getting you to Colchis is the first priority," I replied biting my lips. "Helle will be with Poseidon." Phrixus then let out a roar sobbing with his tight fists on his eyes.
"Why! Why! WHY! This wasn't supposed to happen! Mother and Helle were supposed to be alive with me!" Leaning his face to my neck, his tears dripped down to the sea and to the blazing wind.
Reaching Colchis the next morning, Phrixus sat down with his face buried between his knees. "I'm sorry I couldn't protect Helle nor Nephele," Gripping my hands, I force myself to stare at the broken boy in front of me.
"No, I should've been more careful of Ino. She played me just the way she wanted," he said through clutched hands.
"No, it's not your fault. Here, give my body to the King of Colchis as an offering for your safety here."
His face shot up to mine. "What, why!?"
"Because this is as far as I can go. Those arrows were poisoned. I'm sorry, I can't protect you anymore Phrixus." My body slammed onto the ground and blood started to flow out of the wounds and my mouth. Phrixus then got on his knee crying out my name and hugging my fragile body still in its ram form. My eyes slowly closed as a single tear came out. Phrixus's voice soon faded out as I felt his tears hitting my face. Darkness overcame me and I was surrounded by darkness. "Aries, the child of Poseidon and a water nymph, you have shown me great loyalty to your loved ones. With the sacrifice of your life, you shall be the first star to shine brightly bringing your passion to the sky. Your history and bravery shall be written in the stars as your sign will be worship. You shall be Aries, the Ram of Fire." a mysterious deep voice called out.
A symbol then appeared on my left shoulder blade. The mark of Aries.
