I was enjoying myself and keeping an eye on my friends Rosie came to tell me she loved my pieces and that she was very proud of me, Jace was getting along with Alec well enough to crack jokes that seemed to ease their tensions, and Annie was with Alyssa having an exciting conversation over wine.
I couldn't help but to strengthen my hearing rune by running my stele over it quickly. I hated to rely on my angel blood to get me advantages but after almost killing myself I had a second chance to know that I should use what I have available to me. I focused on the room and discovered that I could sense fourteen other Nephilim in the room, my three friends, Annie and Alyssa, and nine unknown, I ignored them and tried to listen in on Annie and Alyssa's conversation.
"I knew one of our own needed help, I knew she would be from one of the families that left the Academy, Shadow seen her in the forests and sent out a trace to the nearest shadowhunter. I'm shocked that she made it so close to the institution but she hasn't gone in. Maybe, she doesn't know where it's at. Or maybe she knows others from her lineage are still at the institution." Annie intensely whispered to Alyssa.
"I can't believe she's the missing Lightwood. She has talent like us but I didn't know the family stayed so close. She's grown up quite nice besides trying to take her own life, she is the one I choose as my successor," Alyssa said with a sigh of relief, "She can paint, survive on her own and I think she doesn't have a parabati yet but I know she has numerous runes. She needs to go to the Institute, I'll tell Jace to get her there, or I could just tell Alec, they both need to come in anyway..." she trailed off as a handsome gentleman, who was one of the unknown Nephilim, approached her. He was wearing a black tuxedo with a smokey grey vest and a white tie with a white rose tucked in his breast pocket and a white pocket fold behind it.
"The pieces by the Lightstar artists are exquisite. Perhaps the name is wrong, she emits the Herondale ways, a slice of Carstair sass, and the strength of the lost Lightwood," he says with a very bright and happy tone like he just won the lottery, and dark malice simmered in the air around him.
"Yes... What is it you... want, Godspeed?" Alyssa sassed. I didn't manage to hear the rest of the conversation as I was pulled along with my people.
"I'll get her," 'Godspeed said menacingly, "your missing Lightwood, she will be a great addition to my assets, to begin I will buy her artwork, you can protect her from the rest of the world. If you don't let her do what I want to ask of her... nevermind me but I know how to get what I want," he finished with eased menace.
"So you're the buyer?" Annie interjected bewildered.
"Yes. I was serious about working with her to get her own gallery and her being hired on as my new executive designer for the Godspeed designs," he paused and turned to look across the crowd and I could feel his eyes on me then he continued, "you wouldn't want to ruin her very near and real future? Would you?" he smiled and walked away from them.
"Mia you really have a good touch, I thought your runes looked really nice but I didn't know it was because you did them yourself. You should help with the upcoming Parabati Ceremony" Alec commented, bringing me back into the conversation. I was listening so intently that Alec and Jace had led to where my rose rain piece was displayed. The painting was being observed by the Strang Nephilim who had approached Alyssa earlier, he reached out and stroked the bottom corner of my painting as if it would dissappearif he confirn it was real. Alec and Jace both frowned and stepped forward almost shielding me from the handsome stranger.
"I wouldn't suggest doing that..." Jace said with a clear warning. Alec added on.
"Our friend worked very hard on that piece and it's stated clearly on plaques around the room "DO NOT TOUCH", please refrain from touching the painting," Alec cautioned.
"Oh but I am the owner of the beautiful piece," the handsome stranger paused, "in fact I bought all the pieces by this artist." the handsome stranger said causing Alec and Jace to be slightly taken aback and I blushed, "your friend has a very beautiful talent, would you tell her that I really love the pieces?" he asked.
"W-we didn't know they had been bought... yet" Alec and Jace muttered together apologetically. I stepped forward and was about to give him a piece of my mind. Before I could do anything Jace excitedly turned to me.
"Mia!" Jace said excited, "this is cause for celebration, all of your paintings have sold!" Jace exclaimed and swept me into a bear hug, "I knew you could do it," he said setting me down. Then I saw the buyer stare at me and our eyes met and something clicked or snapped I couldn't tell but I felt blissful.
