Tomorrow finally came, and I woke up with a spring in my step.
Looking around my dirty apartment, I finally found something that looked, and smelled, clean.
Putting on the plaid shirt and some jeans, I went to my sorry excuse of a kitchen and grabbed a granola bar to quiet down the sound of my stomach rumbling.
I'd eat at the coffee shop.
Maybe with Vasily..
I thought.
No, he's a costumer, I need to do my job.
After contemplating a little more, I finally walked out the door, butterflies in my stomach.
----------------------------------------------------
"Hey Abe, you're a bit early."
My boss said.
I shrugged and put my apron on.
"I figured I'd eat breakfast here today, make the coffee a little early."
I said, grabbing a pastry.
"You sure it wasn't because you're eager to see a certain someone?"
Surprised, I choked on my pastry.
"Ah, so I'm right. See, you can't hide these things from me."
I playfully punched her in the arm.
"Don't- Don't do that when I'm eating."
She shrugged.
"Serves you right for eating my food."
She had a point.
"Anyways, its time to open up, why don't you go start up the machines and brew some coffee, I'll look out for your boyfriend."
Rolling my eyes, I did exactly as she said.
A couple minutes later, she came back to where I was working.
"Good news lover boy, your boyfriends here."
Almost jumping out of my skin, I frantically ran over to the coffee brewer and started to make the coffee he had yesterday."
I may have memorized it.
"Look at you go, I've never seen you work THIS hard."
I shrugged again.
"I just- I just don't see why he should wait that long. He's visiting family."
"Mhm. Thats a load of bullshit."
Shrugging once again, I finished his coffee and put it on a small serving tray.
Walking out, I felt my legs slowly turn into mush as I saw him.
He wasn't wearing a turtleneck this time, but a grey sweater.
One with a V neck, low enough to show off most of his collarbone.
His hair was even slicked back a little.
"Special occasion?"
I asked, putting his coffee down on the table.
He looked up and smiled.
"Would you consider a funeral a 'special occasion'?"
My jaw fell as I blinked.
"Oh my God- Im so- I'm so sorry- sorry for your loss"
He shrugged and smiled again.
"Its alright. it was my dads funeral. If you as me, the man had it coming."
He had it coming?
"I don't- what?"
"Ah, its nothing. I see you kept your promise"
He said, taking a sip of his coffee.
"Its good, if not better than yesterday."
I could feel my face heating up.
"T-thanks I- I mad sure to make it extra special."
What was I saying?
"I can tell, it tastes sweeter than yesterday. Of course, I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but this is wonderful."
I smiled at that.
The things you find in a coffee shop.
"Hey Abe! Quit talking and come back to your job!"
My boss yelled, making me snap back to reality.
"Oh- yes um. I'm sorry, nice talking with you."
I turned around just in time to see my boss mouth something that looked like "Ask him out."
I nodded and turned back.
"Would you...Would you like to...maybe go on a walk? Theres a nice park around here."
Good one Abe, your hopeless romantic is showing.
"I'd love that, I haven't been to a park in a while."
And with that, the date was set.
