Ramen was breathing hard, as most of her energy was taken out of her just by reflecting attacks made by her doppelganger. She knew in the back of her mind that she couldn’t keep it up any longer, and that she would have to be pinned down sooner rather than later. Slowly returning back into reality from her thoughts, she tensed up as she felt a hard swing connect with another. However, it wasn’t her who blocked it. Ramen turned her head to see a froth of green hair moving next to her.
“L… Lily?” She questioned as the frog girl counteracted the blow with one of her own, nailing Vanessa in the face and sending her flying.
“Yea. Hey. Beatrice told me to help. It’d be more training for me. You ready?” She said plainly, still focused on the shapeshifter who was getting up in the distance.
“S-Sure. Thank you for your assistance,” Ramen thanked Lily. She nodded. She responded with “just make sure not to electrocute me into fried frog, deal?” Ramen giggled and nodded as well.
“Two on one? Come on Beatrice, that is so not fair…” Vanessa sighed. She stopped to think for a moment, then smiled. Vanessa charged herself up, forcing the electric to course through her entire body. From there, she began to spin, the bottom of the long dress forming a circle to act as a base of a small tornado. She charged at the two, making them flee into different directions. Ramen gasped for air as Lily was just hopping back to her feet.
“Did you know that you could do that?” Lily asked as the tornado passed her again, hitting her in the process. Ramen, shaking her head out of confusion, returned to her feet to see the tornado heading straight for her. She frowned, quickly throwing a punch out of self-defense. It missed, and Vanessa exited the form to kick Ramen in the face. It made the jellyfish girl collapse again, but this time in pain. Vanessa fell onto the dirt again, placing a hand on Ramen’s throat in fury.
“One! Two! Three!” Beatrice had begun shouting from afar. Vanessa’s clamp on Ramen grew tighter, making Ramen squirm.
“Listen here, you little fish. I was let out first. I am superior to you. I will be better than you. And you best understand it,” Vanessa spoke to Ramen in a dark tone, pushing as hard as she could on her throat. However, Lily was quick to pounce on Vanessa, pulling her off of the girl before she could do any further damage.
As the general was nearing the two-digit number, Beatrice came running over to the scene, coming to congratulate everyone on her hard training. However, all she saw was one frightened girl, one angry girl, and one girl on the ground moments away from death. They all looked at each other for a couple of moments before Beatrice sighed, crossing her arms. Evan came up behind the group as well, seemingly out of breath.
“You were right, Evan. Maybe this was a little too much for them,” she stated bluntly while looking straight into Vanessa’s shaking eyes.
“Well, it looks like training is done for the day. Let’s head back to the lab and get cleaned up.” All three of the hybrids nodded in unison, getting up to trail through the forest. Evan and Beatrice stood around for a bit, with Evan looking a bit tired from being in the forest.
“Come on, let’s go for a walk.” She said to him, starting to head into the forest.

“So you don’t think that training was successful at all?” The scientist had stated behind the general, who was leaving fall leaves in her wake.
“No. I almost witnessed Vanessa killing Ramen. If I had not run towards them, I think she might have done it.”
“Do you think that they really have grudges against each other? I mean, they’ve only known each other for a couple of weeks, and not even that…” Evan left his statement where he was, climbing over a log.
“Of course. I didn’t intend it to happen that way, but I guess it did. It seems like I drove Vanessa a little too far off of the edge.” She paused. “I think she’ll be OK.”
“Well, what now? Should we send them on another mission to retrieve Dagger?” Beatrice held her head for a bit, letting out a bit of disgust in her voice. The small cry of a bird sounded quickly after.
“I don’t know. I don’t think so, at least. We have no idea where he is, and it would just be a waste to send the experiments out again only for them to cause trouble. I don’t need another headache, sorry.” Evan put a hand to his chin, blinking for a couple of moments.
“What about scouting missions? We’ll just have one or two of them looking for Dagger across town. He should still be here, after all. It wouldn’t hurt.” Beatrice scratched her head.
“That’s actually not a bad idea. It would put them to work, as well as them potentially having a chance to capture him.” She looked back at her assistant, giving him a smile. “Thank you, Evan.”
Evan was shocked, as getting a “thank you” from Beatrice was harder than getting a picture of Bigfoot. It was so out of her character. However, he calmly accepted her gratitude and kept trekking.
“You know; it’s funny––I feel like you were a bit like Andrew.”
“Andrew? Who’s that?” Evan asked out of curiosity.
“Ah, he’s an old college buddy. He was really nice, as a matter of fact. We were both studying genetics at the time, so we had most all of the same classes.” Evan overstepped another log as Beatrice kept the conversation going. They were getting closer to the laboratory.
“So now… gosh, it’s been a long while since we talked. I think he’s in upstate New Hampshire now… doing something with bugs. I’m guessing at this point.” She yawned, even though it was midday. They both entered through the back entrance, hopping that the commotion from the battlefield didn’t carry into the building.
