Kana quickly jotted down the answer to the final question. She could see that Tykie and Misa were almost done too. Her eyes shifted to Mr. Fabio, but he didn’t so much as glance at Soren, his gaze shifting from student to student.
Fabio smiled as the clock ticked down to zero. “STOP, everyone put down your pencils and turn over your tests.” I will come and collect them from you individually, however you must stay in your seats until I dismiss you as I usually do.
Soren watched as Mr. Fabio collected the tests. It seemed to take hours, but in reality it was only 2 minutes. As Fabio picked up his test, Soren started shaking. He had failed, he knew it… there was no way for him to survive now, his only hope was that Fabio wouldn’t actually shoot him, that it was just a joke, or that he wouldn’t have the guts to shoot a kid.
Fabio had a grin on his face as he descended the classroom, back to his desk at the front. He sat down in his chair and started grading. After a few minutes, he stood up and started to speak.
“I will now announce the results in order of highest grade to lowest grade.”

Fabio paced the floor silently for about 15 seconds, then abruptly stopped in near the right side of his desk. His hand went to the gun on his belt. His hand grasped the handle, and slowly dragged the gun up out of its holster. “You didn’t think I would actually kill one of you, did you?” he said with a maniacal grin on his face. You are about to learn just how serious these rules are, and just how deadly it can be to disrespect this great academy. The rules were made clear to you on the first day of class, and they clearly state that one of you must die today, and that the person to die is the one with the, lowest score. He raised his gun and pointed it at Soren. His grin only widened. “Die, you piece of trash.”
Time seemed to freeze in place as his finger began it’s descent on the trigger. Bang! The bullet came out of the gun, and moved slowly along its path towards Soren. All of a sudden, a voice appeared in Soren’s head. “Do you want to live” it said. “Yes” he replied. “Do you want to live” it repeated the question. “Well, I certainly don’t want to die” he responded, slightly irritated.
The bullet spun closer on its path towards Soren. “The world has forsaken you” the voice said inside his head, it was somehow calming even though the words were scary. “If you wish to survive, you must believe that you will live and believe in yourself” “that won’t change anything” replied Soren “believing in myself won’t change my fate.”
“You make a good point” the voice said “through any worldly calculations, you have no hope but to die. You are a dead man to all reason and logic, to all sane people. There is no way for you to dodge the bullet, or for you to do anything at all.”
“You have one hope left. Since this world’s sanity has abandoned you to die, you must grasp it what is left.” The voice said. “But if you take away everything sane from the world, everything logical and rational, all you have left is randomness” Soren replied. “Young one, if you remove sanity from the world, you are left with insanity. If you remove logic, you will be left with Luck. If you remove reason from the world, you have fate.” “If you can grasp these things, and truly believe in them, they will save you when logic and reason have no hope. If you believe in me, Hijoshiki, the Goddess of insanity,”
“I believe” Said Soren. His eyes saw the bullet flying at him, and he closed his eyes. “I guess I will have to give up my sanity to stay alive… that makes sense. Take it, take it all Hijoshiki, I offer it to you.”
The bullet flew gracefully towards Soren, and he saw it coming. He opened his eyes, and… CRACK! It shot past him, and into something behind him. The rest of the class gasped. “You missed” said Kana”
Fabio smiled at them all. “I don’t know what you’re talking about” he said. “I hit my target right in the center”
Soren turned around. Ricardo was slumped over in his chair with a hole in his head. There was blood spurting out of the wound, and all over the floor.
Mr. Udon walked in with a mop and bucket, and started to mop up the blood.
Fabio decided to have a little bit of mercy on the confused children. “While Soren got the lowest score on the test, Ricardo had the lowest score over all.” The class looked at him, confused. “You see, Ricardo snuck into my study a few nights ago and stole a copy of the test, and studied it. That was considered cheating, which make his actual score -4%” The gun gleamed as Fabio inserted it back into its holster.
The voice in Soren’s head spoke again “Well done, I shall accept you as my child. Believe in me, and you will work miracles, after all, what good mother would give her son poison when he asked for water.” “The more you believe, the greater the things that you can do.”
“You are now dismissed” Fabio said, and everyone slowly got up, and exited the room, leaving Fabio, Mr. Udon, and Ricardo’s dead body alone in the classroom.
