I had always grown up in a wrestling family. My grandparents were both world champions in the sport. They fought in cage fighting to validate their prowess as athletes, and to show that pro wrestling wasn’t fake. My granddad told me before he died that he had suffered more injuries from wrestling than he ever received, as a fighter. But some never believed him and made fun of his profession. My dad is a twenty time world heavyweight champion in both wrestling and MMA. His combined time, as a champions was over twenty years with countless defenses.
Dad is starting to slow and isn’t as agile as he once was.
He told me one day,”Son, I may never reach my peak again, but I will eat up all the money on the way down. Know your worth son and never forget it!”
I never did and once I graduated from college I asked him to set me wrestle full time. I had done some part time work to help pay my way through college. I love it from day one.
Day was in his office that day when he gave me the gimmick that I would start wrestling under.
It was red flair!
