“What, How…” Ostena tried to say flustered.
“I have a special skill that allows me to crystallize an enemy. But I only get half of the experience a naturally forming one. Currently, I cannot use it very often. It has a four day cool down. But it can be very powerful. Even being level 85, I am sure 12,650 would help, and there are two of them. Currently, Eric and I are not strong enough to use them. They would help us gain levels, but we would still be weak with skills. The guild though could probably use these very well.”
“What do you want for them?”
“Eric and I need to head deeper into the continent. We need money and Quest points would be good.”
“The guild can buy theses, of course, they would make amazing gifts for tournament winners. Would you be able to get us more?”
“Probably, but you would be the only one I could deal with because you swore the vow. And having all the guild masters do that seems like a pain. This is the capital of a small kingdom, so, for now, this can be our base of operations. We will be gone for a bit so some of the Crystals will get used. But we will make sure to bring enough back. Obviously, there won’t be a set price for them because they will have different amounts of Experience.”
“How long before the spell levels up?”
“It is a Mastery spell, so it slowly gains mastery. So far it is at 2%, so it will be a while before it is truly powerful.”
“Don’t underestimate this spell. It crystallizes half the Experience of an enemy, I have never heard of the gods giving out this spell as a mastery spell before. Even with the 4-day cooldown, the spell is amazingly powerful. You were right to have me make a vow in the Goddess’s name. Not that I would have betrayed you, you are worth more alive. You cannot allow yourself to be killed. Just because you have the adventurer's resurrection doesn't mean there are not ways around it.”
“I know, I plan on being careful, which is why I wanted to only have one person other than myself and Eric know.”
“I have to agree that is a good idea, but if you can form these Crystals and you are only going to get better at it I want to form a protection team that will follow you.” She said sounding worried.
“That's not something we can do, We are Still forming our party, but I cannot take that. Eric and I will have to find others to join our party. We will get stronger so you don’t have to worry. Also, I’m not a Soul Crystal Generator. I have plans for myself. I just offered this because I need money currently.”
“Fair enough, but if you can get the cooldown timer down I will have to assign you a strong team as followers.” She said adamantly.
“I promise that if something happens, I will defend myself and should the worse come to pass I will allow you to assign us babysitters, Fair enough?”
“For now.” She said nodding.
“We would like to take the Advancement test for D ranked adventures. And I would like to know what to work for to become C rank.”
“The test will be a formality with your level it will be easy. C might be in your reach, but I would advise waiting until you reach level 40 and get your class upgraded.”
I left the meeting with a voucher for 10,000 gold and 2,000 quest points. As well as a test date for tomorrow.”
Alic was less than pleased when he found out what I had done. Though this was probably the only way that we could do this safely. Also seeing as I told her there was a timed cooldown on the spell she would be less interested in it so far.
We spent the rest of the day relaxing and preparing for our fight tomorrow.
“I am stronger than when we left my village, but I feel so weak when I think about everything,” Eric said.
“I know I think about it too, I don’t know what is right or wrong, should we level up fast, or should we level evenly with our skills.”
“Odds are it will be a mix of both. You will want to be much higher when you fight the demons. The extra Health, Mana or Stamina might save your life.” Alic said.
“By the way how close are you to mastering the Spell?”
“I am at 2.3% and have cast it 231 times. Which means I will need to cast it about 9769 more times to master the skill.”
“Even without mastering the skill it still offered you great boons, even at receiving only 50% what a goddess crystal would get you.” Eric said, “Though trying to use them to level skills really eats through your savings.”
“Let's not complain too much though, we have less than a year to get 48 more demon kills to get you Immortality,” I said chuckling.
“You're right we need to get to the kingdom as fast as we can.”
“No, I thought about that and I don’t agree that speed is best. I think we should walk there killing anything in our path. To raise our level and our skill progression. We have no idea how strong our enemy will be. That Minor Demon was only level 15, and it almost killed us. What if there are lesser Demons, Demons or greater Demons. There could even be Demon lords there.”
“The goddess wouldn’t send us to die though,” Eric said.
“No, she wouldn't, however, she asked us to hurry, but she also gave us this skill to get stronger faster. For humans level 300 - 500 is considered strong but demons can be measured in the 1000’s. and that is before their rank bonus. Some humans can get into the 1,000’s as well if they focus on fighting, they are usually the SSS rank. Though this information is coming from Etis Online, not here. It should be mostly the Same though,” I said looking towards where Alic was hovering.
“As far as I knew yes.” He said.
“Let’s go get some dinner.” I said smiling, “Alic please make sure to watch the surroundings for us.”
“Of course.”
We feasted, considering our payday. Before heading back to our room and sleeping off the food coma. This world was hard to think that it was real, that there were aspects that seemed so different, but so many that were real. I was here on Etis, the Place where I spent most of my time since my parent's deaths. I missed my brother, yet I was also glad he wasn't here. I woke the next morning to Alic hovering over me.
“Alex, the goddess spoke to me.”
“What did she say?” I asked curiously.
“You’re brother died, she was able to pull his soul over here, but she was attacked. She was not able to control his reincarnation. She Is looking for his soul right now.”
“How did he die?” I asked.
“I don’t know. She seemed distracted,”
“Okay, then we need to hurry up. So we can find my brother.”
Walking over I shook Eric awake. “We have to get moving.”
I walked to take a shower. I contemplated boosting my level right now, but it would draw unwanted attention. When I finished Eric took his. This would be the last time we could take a nice shower like this.
When he finished we went to the Robe shop. I browsed for something better. But nothing caught my attention. We went to a Mage weapon shop and I started looking at Wands and staffs. I found A staff I liked that would serve my purposes well.
Staff of Magical Shielding
Quality: Epic
Level requirement: 30
Damage 30-100
Enchantments
Can cast Mana Shield 2 times a day, recovers a charge every 12 hours
Increases Damage of Attack spells by 50%
It cost 5,000 gold, but it gave me a defensive ability. When we finished. We headed over to get Eric a better weapon. He fell in love at first sight, I almost felt bad for when he would outgrow the weapon.
Dual Daggers of Fire and Ice
Quality: Epic
Level requirement: 30
Damage 100-150
Enchantments:
Adds 20 Fire damage when the enchantment is triggered
Adds 20 Ice damage when the Enchantment is triggered
There went the other 5,000 gold we had. We were broke again, but our combat abilities had greatly increased. Leaving the shop we headed towards the Guild arena. There were not many people there, after all, we were still low ranked they didn’t expect to see much. We Found Guild Master Ostena and she pointed to another person.
“We will be handling your exam.” She said smiling. “It will be three hundred quest points to take the exam if you fail they will not be reimbursed.”
“How many Quest points do we have Alex?” Eric asked.
“We have 2,381. Is it 300 each or for the team?”
“300 it's just 300 the whole team shares the points. I’m expecting great things from you two. Alex, you are up first.”
Stepping into the arena I saw a dummy, it only had 300 health, but its magic resistance was at 75%.
“You have to destroy the target with one hit.”
With bonuses, each Arcane bolt did 477 damage. So when you took into account the resistance of the target I should do 306 damage since there would be no damage multipliers. This seemed a little harder than I thought it would be. But I would still be able to do it.
Taking my stance, I let loose my attack all three bolts slammed into my target. Its health plunged to 0, but the dummy wasn't destroyed which confused me. Ostena was smiling. And glanced at the man next to her.
He stepped forward as Eric entered the arena.
“Your situation is a hostage is taken and you have been tasked with taking out the attacker without letting them hurt the hostage.” The man said.
Eric smiled and seemed to fade from view a bit then he seemed to vanish. Next thing I knew the dummy’s head was falling on the ground.
“Using stealth and behead, a wonderful combo that would work on anyone who couldn’t see through it. You pass.” He nodded to the guild master.
We walked over to her, “As you both guessed this test was harder than most D exams. I know you will be going on a long trip soon, so we gave you the C Exam. It's an extra 800 points, but I'm sure it will help you out. She said smiling.”
I accepted because there was no reason not to, the only thing quest points were good for was the exam.
“We are leaving today, something has come up and it needs our attention. We will be heading to the Kingdom to the southeast.” I said softly.
“I’ve heard bad things coming from the south recently.”
“I know,” I said nodding.
“Be safe little champion,” Ostena said smiling.
I started a little bit, “Oh please. An arcane elf shows up, and has a never before seen skill, I’m not stupid. My intelligence is over 200.” She said with a wink.
“Be careful. The goddess is love and compassion, but there are dark gods and goddess who would eat you up if you got in there way.”
“Thank you. I will do what I can to say safe.” I said softly.
Eric and I left the city immediately, Ostena escorted us to the city gate.
