Mathew unlocked the door and opened it slowly, quietly. Slipping through the opening and closing the door behind him. Giving his eyes a moment to adjust to the darkness before walking down the stairs one at a time. He stopped as the girl came into view at the bottom of the stairs, her chest rising and falling slowly as she slept. Stepping around her to the floor, he turned and lifted her carefully into his arms, she was so small.
Taking her to the cot and laying her down carefully, pulling the blanket over her. His eyes watching her tenderly as he smoothed a curl off her brow. It was then he saw the cloth wrapped shard of glass, a brow-raising quizzically at it. A small amused smirk curling the corner of his lips. He picked it up and slipped it into the back pocket of his jeans before turning away to scan the floor for more glass. Not having noticed the missing cup before now.
Shaking his head a little as he walked back toward the stairs, picking up the empty plate. A soft whimper coming from the cot behind him catching his attention. He turned sideways as he looked back at the slumbering girl. She had rolled onto her side and there was a frown on her brow and her lips were parted. Another soft whine and his gaze softened, she was coming of age.
He knew well that it was now that the dreams were becoming darker for her as the opening grew nearer. The urge to wake her was strong, but he knew that if he did the visions would just come back stronger the next time she slept. Sighing and walking back up the stairs, leaving the girl alone once more. He closed the door quietly and locked it again behind him. Pulling the shard of glass from his back pocket as he reentered the kitchen, holding it up for all to see.
“No more glass for her, stick to plastic, unless you want an open wound.” for once he sounded slightly amused as he spoke. Dropping the shank on the table and placing the plate near the sink, turning and leaning back against the counter. “She’s having the visions.”
“How clearly?” Damian asked sitting forward in his chair, watching his older cousin.
“I’m not entirely sure, I can just tell that it’s happening.” Mathew stuffed his hands in his pockets.
“If they are becoming clearer, there will be a point where the transfer will not be a surprise and she will be ready for it. She could try to fight us, or escape.” Damian frowned and stood slowly “I need to think and consult,” and without another word he left the room.
“If she’d already made a weapon to fight us with, chances are escape is in her thoughts, if she can see the opening, how are we going to get her there, she’ll know.” Ian was frowning as he looked at his older brother across the room. Everything they had been worrying about already, partnered with this. They had police and the girl's friends and family to worry about and now her.
“I told you the risks were too high!” Alex stood up quickly and started to pace the room in an agitated state, a hand moving through his long, blonde locks, pushing it out of his eyes, his teeth chewing on the piercing in his lip.
“Oh shut up, Alex, all you have to do is go to that damn school and keep your eyes and ears open.” Ian snapped at the younger man this brought the other's blue eyes flashing angrily to his cousins.
“All I have to- Listen here, gardener!” Alex started forward with a snarl on his lips, an audible growl in his throat. Ian stood to the challenge, growling low himself, steel eyes glittering.
“Enough you two!” snapped Mathew, his already dark eyes glaring at the two. “I’m tired of this! Could you two just keep your cool until it’s time?!” pushing off the counter and moving toward the others, he stood half a foot taller than them, not that they were short by any means.
Ian stood and six foot three, his frame was muscular and his hair the same raven black as Mathew’s. His eyes, however, were the colour of summer storm clouds, grey and flashed like lightning when he was angry. The twins were the shorter of the four at only six feet, both blonde and blue-eyed. Damian always amused by something no one else could understand. Alex was moody and usually the first one to point out the problems in any plan put into place.
Sighing softly and placing his hands on the table, looking down at the roughly fashioned weapon.
“We need to be together more than anything, this is it, there is no other way,” levelling the other two with his black eyes, they said nothing but the looks they returned told of their understanding. They were in too deep to turn back now. “Alex off to bed, you have school in the morning, it’s already late. Ian you too, remember, don’t get too close tomorrow. Watch.” as the other two nodded and left the room Mathew sat down and shoved his hands into his hair, elbows on the table. He knew coming into this that it wasn’t going to be easy, but they had waited too long.
