The Girl Who Touched The Rain

Ahnali pt. 4

Ahnali pt. 4

Mar 31, 2019

She went into the elevator and rode it up to the top floor. Due to the rain it was completely vacant. She would have a moment to be alone, to calm down. She stepped out from under the awning into the rain cradling herself and letting her tears fall freely. She hated when her father belittled her choices, she hated that he wanted to control every aspect of her life, but most of all she hated that he never talked to her about this as a father, only ever as a boss. She stood by the edge and looked down sighing heavily.

All of the sudden the rain began to pour, "If you jump I'm going to be pissed" the echoey voice startled her. She turned and searched for the voices origin but couldn't find anyone. "Uhhh, who said that?" she shielded her eyes and scanned the roof again. "That would be me." She felt a twinge of pressure on her nose and a single drop of rain remained. She glanced slightly up and could barely make out a faint silhouette. "Oh god.....I've gone crazy! My dad made me so upset I'm seeing my imaginary friend!" She smacked her hand to her head and squatted down.

The silhouette changed their stance crossing their arms in front of their chest. "I am not an imaginary friend, in fact I'm way older than you so if anything you're my imaginary friend." Ahnali looked up starring blankly at the silhouette before bursting out in laughter. After she finished the silhouette spoke again "are you feeling better?"

"I am...despite not having a single clue about what's going on. She stepped towards the silhouette but they moved away. "So, Rain Man...you are a man right?"

"Obviously" She rolled her eyes at his response.

"You know I can't really see you right, you just look like a body outlined in rain." He was quiet for a moment before replying

"Guess you can't huh..." he rubbed the back of his neck.

"Well can I ask you some questions?"

"Sure!" he sounded excited "But I get to ask you questions too." She nodded, walked over to the covered seating area, and pulled a chair to the edge. She tucked her hair behind her ears, wiped her eyes a bit then asked her first question.

"What is your name?" he shrugged.

"Not really sure I have one, I guess the others call me Rain." she looked puzzled.

"Others...there are more like you?" He crossed his arms annoyed.

"Hey, that's 2 questions," she blushed slightly.

"Right, sorry, your turn."

He paced from side to side tapping his chin before turning to her, "Why do humans always start 'strange interactions' with an exchange of questions?" his question took her by surprise, she was expecting a question like what was her hobby or where she lived. She thought it over for a minute before replying.

"I suppose that's just how we're raised, we're taught to question things we don't understand. That way we can learn a little more about them. I suppose it makes things less scary." he began laughing.

"haha, why don't you just observe them overtime?"

"Well sometimes we do, but for other things, well there isn't enough time in our lives to achieve that."

"I guess that makes sense...but doesn't it feel empty?" she smirked at him.

"No, it is nice to learn things, weather it be new or old, every bit of information adds to our understanding of the world and makes it just that much better." She paused briefly "Now that was 3 questions so you owe me 3." he nodded waving his hand in an 'after you' motion.

"OK, first, same as before, there are others?" he nodded again.

"Yeah, I know there are a lot of us, but in my group there is Storm, Hurricane, Hail, and Wind. Sometimes I work with Monsoon, Typhoon, Cyclone, and Blizzard but that's not often. Only if Storm makes Wind take me there. I guess I work mostly with Storm and Wind."
