Background noises

I cannot for the life of me shut out some or most background noises. Especially if they are repetitive. The more I try to ignore them the louder they seem to get until its like they are almost stabbing me!
Its hilarious yes but also really annoying. I'm sure MANY can relate even those without ADHD/ADD!
