I decided to ignore her behavior until study hall and if it continued........... well i'm really not sure what to do if it continued. By last hour study hall I was clutching my earbuds in my first like someone might try to snatch them from me. I met up with Sky Davis on the way to my locker. She's been my best friend since preschool and one of the only people I stop writing long enough to talk to. She’s eccentric and extremely loyal. She held my journal and pen while I through the rest of my heavy load in my locker. “Something's bothering you.” she singed as she flipped through my journal. Over the years we learned to read each other extremely well. At some times too well. I thought about telling her about Annett. But decided against it.
It wasn't really a problem yet. I took my journal back from her, “Just writers block.” I knew she didn't believe me but she let it drop anyway. We walked in silence to the library. We always sat in the same place in the library. In the dictionary section on the floor right in front of the windows. All the way in the back. Now people have their phones instead of dictionaries so this section is always deserted. Sky always did anything but study while I always was knee deep in my writing.
Just as we sat down the disembodied voice of a random adult came over the intercom. “Sky Davis, please report to the office.” I glanced at Sky “That's the third time this month. What did you do?” She gave me one of her innocent smiles, "Your guess is as good as mine.” She ran off without another word. It was then that I noticed Annett sitting right across the room....... Staring at me. She gave me a slightly creepy smiled when she caught me looking at her. Almost everything about her annoyed me more than it should. We were the only ones in that section of the library. I always sat here because this section is filled with old dictionaries no one reads. The entire year I've never seen someone walk back here. There was no way that Annett just sat here because she felt like it.
“Are you following me?” I almost smacked myself. That was the best I could come up with?
She tilted her head to the side “What if I am?”
“Um….” I was ready for her to deny it. My brain was too shocked to form coherent words let alone sentences. She laughed at whatever expression I had on. I mentally shook myself and came up with something to say.
“Why are you following me? Aren't there more interesting people to follow?” This entire thing was getting annoying and a little psychotic........ At least I had some new book ideas. She was about to reply when Sky came running back like an emotional tornado. She sat down and threw her arm around my neck, “I'm not in trouble!” Annett was glaring at the arm Sky still had wrapped around me. I decided to to annoy her further and take revenge for my earbuds. I smiled at Sky and laid my head in her lap so I could read without propping my head up against the wall. Annett knuckles turned white from clenching her fists. Her glare could burn a hole through someone. I thought about sitting back up for a second. That expression didn't remind me of someone that was mentally stable.
I looked back up at Sky, “That's great! What did they need you for?”
Sky smiled, oblivious to the glare Annett was practically beating her over the head with. “They wanted to inform me that i'm student of the month.” I burst into laughter.
“I didn't even know we had that!” I pretended to wipe tears from my eyes as we both smothered our laughter. If you're too loud the librarian kicks you out of the library and you sit in the cold hallway for the rest of the class. After we calmed down I went back to writing and Sky started petting my hair like she does whenever I lay my head in her lap. I got so relaxed I started purring like a cat. Before Sky could comment on my cat like attitude I felt a vise like grip clamp onto my forearm and forcefully pull me off of Sky’s lap and into a standing position. I spun around and came face to face with Annett. She was glaring at Sky like she was the bane of her existence. Her grip on my arm was so tight it was starting to cut off the blood flow to the rest of my arm..... Ow, that's going to leave a bruise.
Sky jumped up “Hey! What do you think your doing! Let go of her!”
Annett bared her teeth like a dog and growled, “Hands to yourself!” She let go of my arm, spun around, and stormed off. Her angry footsteps echoing behind her.
