The moon whispered secrets
In the hours before dawn
Exchanged for some of my own
We unlocked ourselves to each other
And I thought:
Can this be home?
But the moon waned to darkness
And no matter how hard I strained
There were no more precious whispers
And I lamented for my friend
And the nights were longer alone
And I soon forgot how to sleep
When the lock on myself rusted on
And iron stained my dreams.
