“So, we get the ranks based on our strength, when we went through training. However, if you did a really good job during your training, and/or showed some magic powers beyond the wolves-into-humans kind of thing, you become a Magi and get a godly name,” I explained.
“What are Magi?”
“They’re the wolves who can do multiple things. Everyone can turn into a human if they’re wolf and vice versa, but a handful can do more than a wolf, like a roc or a bear. Sometimes they can do other things, like psychokinesis. If you’re a Magi, your parents were Magi. It’s a recessive trait.” Artemis jumped in to add, “Apollo and I are Magi. You’re supposed to be too.”
I could tell we stunned her. She blinked at her feet with a sort of intensity you don’t normally see, like she lost a staring contest with an owl (those things are hard to beat, I’ve tried)
“So there are medicine wolves, but it takes a while to become one. They keep track of all the herbs and use them to treat illnesses. That’s all we use.”
Laurel looked up and asked, “If you’re a medic, can you have children?” I shook my head, hoping she’d understand the suggestion. “No.”
