I Wish I Paid More Attention To Stranger Danger

“Oh Honey,” I Said In Mock Pity

“Oh Honey,” I Said In Mock Pity

Apr 12, 2019

After my calm hand shake with the person I nicknamed cult leader. None of my abductors actually seemed to know what to do next. I don't think they actually planned that far ahead. I got up and as they watched, still trying to figure out what to do. I opened cabinets looking for a cup. After I found one I filled it up with the water from the sink. It can't be drugged or poisoned if I poured it. I walked back to my seat and sat back down. I just sat there playing with the edge of my shirt as I drank my water. I glanced at Damon who was watching me with an amused expression. I smiled at her, “Oh honey,” I said in mock pity “you got way more than you bargained for.”

We sat around for a while until I had too much silence. “You never explained why I'm here.” Damon spoke up, “Your here because I won the games. You're mine now.” I ignored the last part. “The games?” Cult leader explained that, “The games are simple physical and mental challenges. Lucas and Damon competed and Damon won. The prize is you can bring anyone you want back here and keep them.” Well that does not sound creepy and highly illegal.

They're crazy. Wait….. Something fell into place. I know why I couldn't stop thinking about cult leaders' eyes! I found some old news clippings in a scrap bin in art class and since I was bored I read them. About thirty-something years ago a girl named Darla disappeared without a trace. She had one blue eye and one green. Oh hell.

I rudely pointed at Cult Leader. If my mom was here she would say pointing is rude, “You've been through this before. I read a newspaper about you.” She nodded, “I'm surprised you know about it. But yes I'm part of this tradition. It’s a tradition passed on through the generation. And now I've passed it to my children and you.” So this has happened many times before? How have they not been caught? I shook my head, “you're crazier than I thought you were if you think i'm staying here. Or carrying on this tradition.” Cult leader smiled at me, “I thought the same thing when I was your age. Your views will change over time.”
