Minho:
I woke up a few hours later the light in the sky dimming but still bright. After the long night I was certain I would sleep all day but apparently I didn’t need as much as I thought. I looked over at Eliza sleeping calmly beside me. I couldn’t help but smile as I looked at her face as she slept next to me.
I slowly got out of the bed trying my best not to wake her, and once I was out I left heading to the Med-jacks to see how Alby was doing.
After I got out of the homestead I noticed all of the boys still out doing their job almost like nothing happened. A few of the boys approached me asking how I was, but I simply answered them and continued on my way. I didn’t want to waste anymore time waiting around and talking to people I wanted to check up on him and see if all of our work paid off while we were in the maze. If he wasn’t okay than i knew that Eliza was going to take it on herself even if it wasn’t her fault.
I finally arrived at the Med-Jacks. I stood in front of the building not to sure if I wanted to go inside or not.
I built up my courage and opened the door waking in and too the bed where Alby was still lying on the bed his eyes shut tight and the green veins slowly fading. I walked over to him looking down wondering what was going to happen in the end and if everyone was going to be okay.
“He is fine you know. We gave him the antidote as soon as he got back. He will be fine when he wakes up.” Clint said from behind me.
I turned around facing him, “I know I just wanted to check up on him.”
“You should be resting Minho, you really need it.”
“Ya, okay.” I didn’t want to fight because I knew he was right. I could feel the sleep weighing down on me as I knew I needed to get some sleep. It was going to come sooner or later, probably sooner than later.
I told him goodbye before heading out and back to my room. The light from the sky had already almost gone, the door starting to close as all the boys started heading to get some last bit of food before bed. I headed there too grabbing two plates, one for myself and one for Eliza, before I headed to my room once again.
The homestead had a few boys in it, some lying down other just talking. I found Newt headinging into his room as well but he hadn’t noticed me so I just walked into my room.
Eliza was sitting up in the bed, her eyes glazed over tears falling from her eyes her whole body shaking. I dropped the food and rushed over to her pulling her in for a hug comforting her. She just seemed to cry harder and shake more, I didn’t let go though. I sat there with her rubbing her back and telling her that everything was okay. Soon her sobs calmed down and the shaking was almost gone, I didn’t let her go however for a few more minutes.
When I pulled away her eyes were red and puffy and her cheeks wet with tears. I grabbed her hands holding them as I felt them shaking. “What happened this time?”
“I...You all left me.”
For a moment I didn’t say anything. I didn’t know what to say, “What do you mean?” I finally got out.
“I was out in the maze and when I got back you were all leaving. You were all going out of a different door leaving me behind. I tried to caught up to you but the doors shut.” More tears formed in her eyes as she continued, “I sat on the ground outside of the doors waiting for them to open again, but when they did you guys never came back. I was all alone.”
I pulled her into a hug again, “That will never happen, I’m never going to leave you.”
She pushed me away wiping the tears from her eyes and taking in a deep breath. “Thank you.”
“Anything for you.” I said with a smile on her face. I wasn’t sure if she was trying to pretend that she was okay or if she was really okay but either way she was no longer crying and was even smiling too.
“Sorry that you dropped the food.”
“What?” I looked over at the door where I had come in and noticed the two plates of food that had fallen on the floor when I say her crying. I let out a laugh Eliza laughing right along with me as he both looked at the mess I had made on the floor.
I stood up walking over to it trying to clean up some of it. Thankfully there was an apple and a bag of chips that had been mostly unhurt in the fall. I took them over to the bed opening the chips and handing the apple to Eliza.
“These at least survived, we can still eat them.”
“Thanks Minho.” she said smiling before taking a bite of the apple.
After we finished eating I took the trays and out them by the door so I could take them back to the kitchen tomorrow, and then went back to the bed climbing into it and lying down. Eliza had already slide under the covers pulling them on top of herself. I let a small chuckle out before I slide under the covers myself.
The next morning I woke to find the bed empty. Eliza was gone and so were the plates from last night.
I quickly stood up throwing on a clean shirt before rushing outside to find her. I stopped by the kitchen first but she wasn’t there, Frypan was through. I asked him if he had seen ehr or if she had possibly stopped by and he said that she came by that morning and grabbed a sandwich and a water. She went into the maze.
I told Frypan thanks before taking off to the map room. I was hoping that she would still be there and I could either stop her from going in or that I would go with her. Unfortunately she was already gone along with her stuff. I gathered up some of my stuff, along with a sandwich, before heading into the maze after her. I didn’t doubt that she would be okay but after what happened yesterday I didn’t want to risk anything, I wanted to make sure that she was okay and would make it back here okay.
I ran into the maze running down the corridors looking or anything. After the fifth turn I found a cut off vine on the ground. Another turn later revealed a second one as they continued. After the fourth or fifth turn I found a backpack sitting on the ground but there was no one in sight.
For a moment I just stood there looking down at the bag but i shortly got a hold of myself before turning all the corner and running back and forth hoping to find her just around the area. After several minutes of this I had still not found her and just decided to sit down. I didn’t know what to do and didn’t have anyway of knowing which way she went so I decided I would wait for her at where she left her bag and hope that she came back for it.
Not much longer the light started dimming from the sky slowly as I still sat on the ground. My body was sore and hurting but I was not going to move until I either had to get back or she came back.
I knew that I would have to start heading back soon if I wanted to get there in time so I stood up and grabbed my backpack along with her and slowly started walking. Every few steps I would glance behind myself hoping she would be there but each time I was just as disappointed because she wasn’t. Soon I stopped looking behind myself and just walked. I didn’t know what to do or if there was even anything I could do to find her. I just hopped that she would be fine and find her way out of the maze without getting hurt, at this point it is all up to her.
As I approached the last turn to leave the maze something covered my eyes causing my heart to jump out of my chest. I tried to get out of their grip but nothing worked.
“Guess who?” a familiar voice said causing me to stop my struggle.
“Eliza!” I let out shought as she removed her hands allowing me to turn and look at her.
Her face was dirty and her hands cut up, but aside from that she looked unhurt. I pulled her in for a hug surprising her but I just needed to make sure that it was her and that I wasn’t going insane.
“Hey what's wrong?” she asked hugging me back.
“I came in after you because I wanted to make sure you were okay, byt I couldn’t find you and only found your bag so I started freaking out. Where were you?”
She let out a little chuckle, “hey its okay I set my bag down for a minute as I went to look at something but it turned out not to be anything but the little plate on the wall, and when I came back my bag was gone.”
“I’m sorry I know you can take care of yourself but after yesterday I...I don’t know.”
She pulled away grabbing my face with her hands, “Its okay I know you were just trying to protect me, now don’t worry about it let's just get out of her for today.”
I nodded my head grabbing her by the hand, to make sure she didn’t get away, and heading the rest of the way out. When we came out Chuck was waiting by the entrance and greeted us saying that he missed Eliza and wanted to see her as soon as she got back. She simply smiled before giving Chuck a hug. Before we split ways she told him that she would come straight to the dining hall once she was done putting everything away and mapping out what she saw and they could hang out there for a while. Chuck smiled before running off to the dining hall, I assumed, as Elia and I headed to the map room to finished up with today's work.
It had been such a long day but at the same by everything had gone by so fast that I didn’t even realize that it was so late. Maybe tomorrow would be a little slower, I could just take a day and call down letting some of the other runner to go into the maze for one day.
Just maybe.
