The Beast of Canicus

Chapter 2: The Tales of Urian

Chapter 2: The Tales of Urian

Apr 14, 2019

"WHO ARE YOU?!?" "GOT ANY WEAPONS?!?" "WHY ARE IN HEADING IN?!?"

The questions the guards at the gate to the interior city ask are more for show than actual security. Generally the guards could tell who is from the exterior city, and people who lived there like me and Kaya were allowed to freely move in and out of the exterior. As we were let past the guard station we got a full view of the interior city. The houses and buildings were just as tightly packed as in the exterior, but the poorest building was at least 3 times more expensive than the richest building in the exterior. Most of them were built out of good decent stone, bricks, wood, and any other material that was used for construction. All the roads were paved, which allowed for better movement of people and carts, and for the many guards that patrolled them.

It was always a little bit dazzling to me, I had only been here a few times before. Kaya was all business and ordered me to follow her. I kept up with her trying not to bump into anyone as she went through twists and turns, up the hill Urian was built on. She had suddenly stopped and I had no time to react except brace myself for impact.

"OW! Come on Little Brother, pay attention." She warned me as I helped her up. "Well we are here anyways so lets head on inside" She said this motioning to the building we were besides, it was made of stacked stones and had a sign hanging at the door. Halstrod's General Goods. We entered through the oak door and began to look around. There were many different product, food, clothes, tools, and even a couple swords. A very long and wide sword caught my eye, it wasn't made from the regular iron that many swords are made from. The blade was white, smooth and not too shiny. Apparently my lingering caught some attention.

"Its made from Ivory, elephant bone, the kind of animal that you find in the Highlands west of our wonderful kingdom." I spun around to see the man, he was short, and had some excess weight on him. Even with this fat you could tell he was a man with a good amount of strength. His sandy hair was combed back to fully reveal his receding hair line. He wore glasses and had a long face, that in it's mouth smoked a pipe. He seemed jolly enough, but quite smart. Or at least that's what I could tell from that devilish smile.

"It's fine piece, but not too popular. Well, Im Mister Halstrod, you must be Lucielle's kids."
