Kaya was still on the ground next to me, I couldn't take my eyes of her. I had remembered what had happened at the brothel before I was knocked out in the cell earlier. I was still trying to figure out why she saw me with such terror, and how I had been accused of killing those men. It only started to feel odd that I couldn't remember much after seeing Lucielle stabbed. This made jump forward to ask Kaya if Lucielle was alright, which was rewarded with a boot to my back.
"STAY STILL!" the guard had yelled to me.
I turned to Kaya, slowly this time as not set off the guard again. As usual she understood what I wanted. "Don't worry, Lucielle just got a flesh wound." This relived me but I gave her a questioning look towards my shirt. She responded through a gritty smile. "You did what you had too do, you've done good denying it for now." So that confirmed to me that I was indeed the killer of those men. I was frustrated now, I didn't even recall wanting to killing them. "What don't look so surprised, it wasn't like.... oh god. You don't remember do you?." Her expression changed she was now nervous and scared. This was the first time I had seen Kaya like this, she always seemed to know what to do. "Uh, I thought you figured it out in that fire, I never asked because I thought were scared of it." She was still freaking out when King Luan interjected.
"Enough whispering, your sentencing has begun. You girl have been charged with the crime of helping a murderer. How do you plead?"
I was sure she would deny it. Because she had told me it was good thing I had. "I plead guilty."
This caught me by surprise. I jumped forward to try to escape, I couldn't let us both die. But tied own to that post I was just kicked again. "Calm down Little Brother, and listen to me very carefully. If sees what you are he will use not kill you, so let go." I wasn't sure what she was talking about, I had a feeling I had done something wrong. I wanted to apologize, to let Kaya escape.
"Ah, then they both die." Luan proclaimed from up in his box. "The girl can go quick since she was honest."
The last time I saw Kaya's smiling face she was looking at me as she got to her feet on the dirt floor of this arena. I was now struggling to get up as guards began beating on me. I looked at her with pleading eyes that throughout the commotion I could barely make out.
"As someone about the Old Kingdoms, only someone you trust." She told me as I watched a guard advance on her with a drawn sword. "I love you Little Brother, remember that." She turned away because she didn't want my words, I hope she already knew.
Her final moments went down as so. She turned to face the King as the guard waited for the command. "Go ahead, take my life King of Halomtano. Or should I say Luan of Halman!". This caught the King, most of audience, and I by surprise. Most of us had no idea what Kaya was talking about. But the king clearly knew. Her next words he apparently didn't want to hear.
"You will be glad to know that the lineage of Lotan dies h-"
"KILL HER"
I didn't pay attention to what she was saying only what happened next. before she could finish her statement the sword slid through her back and came through her chest. She collapsed to the ground blood coming through her mouth filling with blood. I watched for only a moment as the blood from her wound pooled around her, her blank eyes staring off. I turned to the gaze of King Luan who had fire in his eyes, and again the intent view of someone else.
But I shrugged it off and let a stronger flame take me over.
