“Senior year sucks!!!!” kept repeating in my mind. Being in senior year has not been bad but also not good for me either. Not bad because I have still maintained my 4.7 grade, got acceptance from the colleges of my choice and my parents are happy with me. But not good terms are even worse, at least for me. I still don’t have a boyfriend.
/* It’s been what? Like a year since I broke up with Adam. It wasn’t a bad break up though which consist of crying, cursing and all the other stuff which are usually happened with all my other friends. We ended on good terms, we knew the problem. Time. I was more focused on my studies since I started preparing for getting admissions in the colleges of my choice. And man if I didn’t worked my butt hard. But a great thing needs an equal amount of sacrifice. Right? */
And this “Senior year Sucks” thing is happening to me because now in the corridor all I can see are the posters of PROM. Prom is just around the corner and I don’t have a date. And I can’t get a date in this short duration of time. All I can think about is making myself locked in my room on prom night. But who does that? And that to him/herself? I don’t want a past where on the prom day all I was doing was watching Game of Thrones locking myself in my room. The whole corridor was filled with students doing preparations for prom. Banners and stuff, work at its full speed. And so was I, in my full speed to reach my psychology class in time. When I took the last turn and the door of the class was just in front of me, someone called my name, and I knew the person was none other than my best friend Rain.
“Can’t you walk a little slow Kate?” she was out of breath.
“Why were you running so fast?”
“Because I don’t want to get to class late again.”
“How late are we?” I asked while looking at my wrist watch. Fuck, its been 15 minutes since the class started. I knew I was getting late, but damn I didn’t saw my watch even once to see.
“Shall we?” she started taking steps towards the class and I followed her.
***
Well, we were lucky. Professor Kennedy were in a good mood and allowed us to enter even without asking why we were late. And after 45 minutes when the class was over, Rain asked the most obvious question I expected from her…
“So, who are you taking to the prom?”
“John Snow maybe…”
“Really?” she played along.
“Yeah he will be joining my just after wiping out the entire army of night walkers…” we both giggled.
“Now, seriously Kate do you have a date?”
“Nah, but I am actually planning to lock myself in my room and watch Game of Thrones.”
“That’s one of the best plan but on the prom night.” We started walking out of the class.
When we were again in the corridor, we watched another banner. It was also with regards with the prom but not just prom banner. And it was something like this.
“Can’t find a date? Don’t lose hope, because you are not the only one. Submit your name to the matching goddess Alex and she will bind you with a Perfect, Crisp and Handsome prom date. Name submission will be on 3rd floor, library, from 3pm.”
This thing written with black color with and red background made my mouth open instantaneously:
“1st are they planning to threaten someone with not a date? 2nd if no, then the person made this doesn’t have the sense of primary and secondary colors. And 3rd of all, what ‘Crisp’ means here?”
“Someone who can take to another date, or can do a little whoo-hoo.”
And she gave me her naughty grin. Why she say stuff like that, it makes me smile too.
“I think you should submit you name Kate. Who knows? You may find a good date for yourself.”
“Nah, I don’t want to submit my name just to get a prom date.”
“Then do something with your date after prom. Its your call.” I was about to punch her, but she douched it. And we both were laughing.
“Nah, I really don’t think so. And do you actually think the will be able to find a guy who is “Crisp”, “Perfect” and “Handsome” at the same time?”
“Maybe. Don’t say that there aren’t any guys with those qualities.”
“I will say there exist guys with such qualities. But all such qualities in a guy…” I left the sentence uncompleted because I and she knew what the end of it is.
“Do you really believe that?”
“A dish can’t be sweet, bitter, sour and salty at the same time.”
“Yeah, you are right. Giving your name will not let you have a gut for date, but saying these good stuff will. I bet the guy is just behind you, listening to the shit you just said and will say “Will you be my prom?” and…”
And then bam… I got bumped by someone from behind. I was about to fall, but I was caught by my hand. And it was not Rain. And in the reflex I said aloud.
“Can’t you see while walking or running or…” and my eyes met with the guy who had grabbed my hand.
Prakash Sharma. The topper of the whole school. He has maintained like what 4.9 or something grade. He and I have around all the classes same other than psychology. I have noticed him before but today he was really looking good in blue-black check shirt and black jeans. His dark hair, black specs and were really suiting him well. He pulled me up and we both stood in front of each other.
“Sorry about that, it was an accident.”
He bent down so as to collect his papers and books. I did so as well as to help him.
“No need to, you can go.”
“Nah, not a problem.”
When we were done collecting all the fallen stuff, we rose and he said,
“Sorry about that, see you later.” Well he was in a big hurry.

When I was in literature class, Cindy, one of my classmate came to me.
“Here’s your number”
She handed over me a pink paper in heart shape with 14 written on it.
“Well Cindy, it’s not mine.”
“It’s your Kate.” And then my phone beeped. And when I looked at my phone a message from rain was on the screen saying “You can thank me later ;)”. “Damn you girl” uttered from my hand.
“You said something?” Cindy asked.
“Nah, thanks for this.”
“And today at 4pm in cafeteria, all the students with this paper have to go there and find there date.”
She walked and sat in her desk. And as if I am going there. I may go for a skydiving without a parachute than going in cafeteria to find myself a random date.
***
It’s 3:55 and I made myself totally into Johari window. And then my phone beeped again. Again a text from Rain.
“Meet me in the cafeteria now!”
“If you are planning to make me go to cafeteria again, sorry girl but do something better.”
“I am not joking. Something happened between me and Adam.”
“Oh shit! For real? I am on my way.”
I quickly packed my bag and headed towards cafeteria. When I opened the doors of the cafeteria, what I saw was a bunch of students holding a small piece of paper, roaming here and there. But all what was there in my mind was to find Rain. And then again my phone beeped. And what I saw made me mad her again.
“Now you owe me a treat girl.”
And then I saw her sitting on the bench with Adam and they did spot me too. They both were smiling looking at me. And I too gave them a made up smile. And I turned to see my destination, the doors of the cafeteria. And when I strode towards it. I got bumped by someone again. A small blue paper fall down and I saw number 14 written on it. “Oh so he’s me date.” I said to myself. But I stick to my old plan. Better to skydive without a parachute than finding a random date. So I just picked up the paper and turned to hand it over and here he was again. And I got bumped with the same person twice. Prakash and I got bumped again. “So he’s about to be my random date?” I said to myself.
