The Girl Who Touched The Rain

Downpour pt. 3

Downpour pt. 3

Apr 20, 2019

She took the object off her shoulders and held it into the light to see what it was. He had placed a large long sleeved dark blue button down shirt on her shoulders. She swung it behind her back, slipping her arms in as she pulled it up. She quickly buttoned it up, “Thank you Rain, you’re too kind.”

“Ah, are you done?”

“Yes.” they both turned back to face each other. To her surprise he wasn’t there. “Ah Rain?!”

“What is it?” she could hear his voice coming from in front of her but couldn’t see him at all. “...where are you?”

“Oh, sorry! I’m right here,” he took her hand in his “I stopped the rain from falling on this roof so that you could warm up a bit. However, without the rain, you won’t be able to see my silhouette.” He held her hand tenderly between both of his “Don’t worry, I’m still here.” She couldn’t help it anymore, tears began to fall again. She pulled her hand away and began rubbing at her eyes.

“I’m so-sorry, I...I just didn’t think I was going to get away. I thought…” He lifted her face softly wiping away her tears. “Shh, it’s ok, you don’t need to apologize for anything.” She tentatively wrapped her arms around him. When he didn’t push her away she rested her ear over his heart. Rain softly rubbed circles on her back.

“Ahnali, maybe you should call your family to come and get you, you’ll feel much better safe and warm at home.”

“I can’t, I was upset with my father...I threw my phone and purse into the car and ran off.”

“What! What were you planning to do, how were you going to go home?”

“I-I was just going to...walk. I probably deserved what happe-”

“Stop!” his voice cut through hers like a razor. “Don’t say that. Nothing that happened was your fault. I Never want to hear you blame yourself for something like that. Promise me.” she looked up at him shocked by his sudden outburst.

She nodded her head slowly, reassured by his commanding yet supportive words. “I promise, thank you Rain.” She stepped away from him limping to the edge of the roof. “We barely know each other but you have done so much for me, you’ve been so gentle and kind.”

He was relieved that she couldn’t see him at that moment, he knew he probably looked like an idiot as he replied to her, “I would do anything for the girl who saw me.” Ahnali blushed bright red. They both stood in silence for quite a bit. Ahnali just stared at the ground, he just stared at her. Rain finally spoke up “I think we should get you home. It would take you all night to walk home, and I’m not sure you’ll be able to do it in your condition, do you have any objections to letting me fly you home?”

She turned back to face him, “If you promise not to show off this time I think it’ll be ok. I warn you, I’m still feeling a bit queasy.” They both laughed softly

“Are you ready then?” She nodded holding out her hand to where she thought he was standing. He took it and pulled her close. She wrapped her arms around his neck and waited for him to take off. “I need to let the rain fall on us again so that we can fly,” the rain began to close in on them. “Get ready, it’ll be cold.” she flinched as the rain began falling on her again but his shirt kept her warm. Despite getting wet, she was happy to be able to see his silhouette again. He lifted her into the air and began heading towards her house.
