It started with their father’s death.
Then came along the headlines in the news and the articles in the paper. Things like King Dies, His Children Now Eligible For Suitors? And King Is Dead, Mothers, Get Your Children Ready To Become Suitors!.
Then came the royal daughter ranting.
“Absolute idiots,” Cass muttered, pacing around her bedroom with her twin sitting on her bed. Yani had been listening to their sister for about an hour, their older brother had been able to get out of it on account of ‘new kingly duties’ which Yani thought was horse crap. He was probably going to go and eat an early dinner then go play chess.
“Now where did Ather go off too?” Cass exclaimed as she finally stopped her infuriating pacing. Yani stood up, knees cracking and arms going to stretch above their head.
“You let him go because he needed to go off and be a king, remember?”
“Phoey, I should have made him stay. He’s a better listener than you are.”
“Well,” Yani started as they made their way to Cass’s makeup table. “I’m all you’ve got because as your twin, I’m obligated to sit through your rantings.”
“It’s not rantings!” Cass slammed her foot on the ground. “I don’t want to get attacked by a bunch of guys asking for my hand in marriage.”
“Yeah, yeah. Now come on and help me do my makeup, you know I can’t make my face look masculine without your help.”
