Jared…
Jared…
Don’t go…
It’s only time…
Where are you going…
Jared come back….
Don’t leave me…
JARED!!!!!
Jared shoot straight up from dead sleep. Sweat covering his body as he slept in just a pair of black sweats. His hand resting upon his chest as his heart raced what felt a million miles an hour. Throbbing, a migraine started to take place. Breathing harshly and heavily. Going to the side of his bed as he put his legs over. He grabbed a cup of water with a rag, getting it wet he placed it upon his face and back of his neck. Attempting to catch his breath he finally put out a deep heavy sigh of breath.
What is this… Jared groans to himself as he slumps back down, hand resting on his forehead holding the rag in hand as he grew goosebumps all over his skin. Remembering back as much as he could.
All that came back to him was the darkness. Nothing but pitch black… And a voice. Whose voice was it? It wasn’t anyone he knew. He couldn’t even put into words if it was even a man or woman. For all he knew, it felt unlike anything else. And it was nothing like a dream.
Looking to his phone as he checked the time, it was 4:37am. A heavy weight came across his body as he tossed his phone back onto his bed. Work was in a few hours and he woke up before his alarm that was set for 5:30am. Even if he wanted to, his body was wide awake and ready for the day. Jared thought to himself that this was good as any time to just take his time before heading in for his shift at the local discount store.
During his daily routine, he did a light rag with water and gave himself a simple wash down to make sure he didn’t smell. His work clothes put away in its own container to guarantee nothing would stink as he wouldn’t always have access to a washer, dryer. There was times to visit the laundry mat, and times you must avoid at all cost.
It’s not like Jared showed he hated his job while on the clock. He rather enjoyed it. Simply just because it kept him busy and money in his pocket for gas and food. What he hated was his coworkers. As the only male, he constantly would get harassed and would be a target for the women. If there was a large load of merchandise to be put out on the floor, the women always complained and would say, “Oh, I’m on my period. I can’t do this.” Or they would tell him, “You’re a man are you not? Don’t you have balls? You clearly work out with that handsome body of yours. You go do it”
Jared never hated women. He didn’t really hate any gender or race. But the women he worked with, knew what to say to the managers to make him the bully and sexist prick. Only once he spoke up to them. He got his one and only warning saying if he tried anything or harm to his coworkers he would lose his job. Sure, he's use to losing jobs. But at the current time this was a job he had to stay for awhile before he could just move onto another job. So, he just took the abuse and dealt with it. As much as he hated the favoritism, sexist witches. He didn’t let it follow him outside of his workplace and always felt relieved after clocking out.
The biggest thing he wished for, was the sexual harassment to stop. He knew he had a body most other men didn’t have because he worked out. He eats the right food and with being homeless, he doesn’t have the ability to be a couch potato like he once was when he was a teenager. Lifting up products, some of the woman would just walk by to grab his ass, biceps, try to touch his abdomen. And most popular of the women, groping him every day at random times.
Jared knows once he’s able to find another good place to just replace this terrible job, he’ll do it in an instant. But what he doesn’t realize that this single day, is going to change many things in his life.
Over the intercom halfway over into Jared’s shift. “Jared, come to the main office. Jared. To the office.”
Confusion filled his face and mind. Heading straight to the office passing the snickering of women, he entered his manager's office to be motioned to the phone. The manager left the room closing the door behind her.
“Uh- H-hello? This is Jared speaking.”
“Yes, this is Steven from Caring Hearts Hospice Center. I’m a nurse here. Are you the son to Mr. John Evans?”
“Actually I’m his grandson… Jared Evans Jr…” Heaviness started to fill his chest as he tried to control his panic voice which, did not work. “Is everything alright? What’s going on?”
“Oh. My apologies. But, Mr Jared. I think you should come here immediately. You’re grandfather is starting to fail.”
Jared felt nothing. But more heaviness. He balled one of his fists and before letting the nurse finish anything he yelled fast and loud. “I WILL BE THERE IMMEDIATELY!”
Slamming the phone down onto the desk, he flings the office door open with a loud thud of it hitting the wall, running to grab his stuff from his locker as he just left his work without a say. No one could even get a word to him. He saw nothing but a tunnel. He had to go. He had to go NOW.
