“Alright. Azrael is gone so you gotta come with me while I work,” I stated while looking down at the now five year old Cavella. She grew about an inch since we first met and her dark brown hair grew halfway down her back.
“Okay. When are we going?” she asked reaching for a hair tie. Today she was wearing jeans and a t-shirt. Her abilities still haven’t surfaced yet, which is normal for a human kid, well mostly human kid.
“Well, I’m going to collect souls and memories as notifications come in.” I replied, “Then we will take them to the escorts where they will take them to the underworld. Then we’ll take the scrolls to the Shelvers.”
“Isn’t there rules to mortals going to and from wherever we’re going?” Cavi asked finishing her ponytail, “Are they going to kill me or something?”
“Oh no. You’ll be fine,” I replied waving my hand to dismiss the subject. She shouldn’t be with me. But we already taught her how to see ghosts and stuff so none of this will be new.
“Ok then. Let me get my shoes on,” she replied searching the room for her shoes. We were in the living room at the moment in Azrael’s house small two bedroom house with a small kitchen that connects to the dining room, a workroom next to that, two bathrooms and the living room.
“I have one notification right now so I’m going to need you to pick up the pace,” I mumbled, “The soul is going to get lost if they die without me being there.”
“Done,” she replied pulling on her jacket. At this I bent my knees so she could jump on my back. When she was secured on my back, I transported us to dimension U-87.
The location of the death was on the side of a multi-lane bridge that had cars speeding through. In approximately five minutes the death will occur.
We just so happened to be in the middle of the road when we transported, and I forgot to have Cavi invisible. So everyone saw a floating girl in the middle of the road.
Then everything for me turned red, meaning I have activated my time manipulation ability. Everything slowed down. Even for Cavi since we were touching each other. She can’t die, but she can break.
“Wow,” Cavi whispered looking around, “You’re still late even with your ability.”
“Haha. Very funny,” I replied jumping to the side of the bridge and set her on the wall that guarded the sides of the bridge.
“So what now?” Cavi asked kicking her feet against the wall as I sat down next to her.
“We wait for the death to occur. Car crash,” I replied frowning and everything returned to normal color for me. That’s how her parents died and she didn’t seem fazed by that fact.
“Ok,” she replied looking out onto the cars until she found something across the street. A man wearing a white jacket that was splattered with red.
“Ah, a ghost,” I stated glaring at the man to make sure he knew not to mess with her. Ghosts like to pick on her when I’m not looking.
“Nice,” she replied waving, “I hope he sees me.”
“He does. Ghosts like that definitely see you,” I replied grabbing her arm. She doesn’t see that he’s holding a knife. Her eyesight isn’t as good as mine.
“What if he walks over here?” she asked looking up to me.
“He comes within one yard of you I kill him again, got it?” I declared.
“Oh. He’s a bad one. Got it,” she replied scooting closer to me.
“Anyways,” I replied looking at my phone, one minute, “We will go visit a friend of mine after this.”
“I’m assuming the death will be here soon right?” she asked, just as a car hit the back of another car, and that car swerved to hit the pole a few feet beside us, “Oh.”
The driver had burst through the window and slammed their face into the pole. The middle aged human in the passenger seat was screaming in horror at the human whose brains were splattered on the hood of the car.
“Alright then,” I stated standing up and tapping my watch which made a glowing object appear in my hand. My death omen. A double bladed polearm. I then tapped the body and the soul emerged holding a scroll.
It was a young man. The woman must have been his mother. He turned to look at his body and screamed hysterically, which surprised Cavi and caused her to look at me.
“Let me know when you’re done,” I replied grabbing Cavi and putting her behind me, “Sometimes the get aggressive.”
“I’m dead!” the man wailed looking around.
“Yup and now I have to deal with you,” I retorted.
“What?” the man asked turning to look at us.
“Alright first things first. Hello welcome to the dimension of the dead. I’m Yurie, Reaper of Souls, yada yada,” I shouted, “And this is my friend who I’m babysitting. Touch her and you die a second time.”
“What?” the man replied, dazed.
“Now is your time to choose. Will you join your dead relatives in the underworld or will you stay here and wander the this planet for an eternity and a day?” I asked raising my brow. Like that man over there, he must have chosen to stay and wander this planet.
“Uh...underworld?” the man replied.
“Alright……..uh,” I replied tapping my watch to see who it was, Jake, “Jake…. Give me your scroll and we can get going.”
“Yurie…,” Cavi called quietly tapping my arm. When I turned to look at her, she had her arms up.
“OH! Yeah, right,” I replied bending my knees so she could jump on my back, “Hand the scroll to Cavi and grab my shoulder or something.”
“Okay…,” he replied handing Cavi the scroll and continued to grab my shoulder. Once he did that we jumped to the Reaper’s dimension planet.
We appeared in the library where all the scrolls are kept. It was a long, white room of shelves that didn’t seem to end. When I set Cavi down, I pointed to the long cart that one of the shelvers, a boy, was pushing.
“Go give that to him okay?” I asked smiling.
“Ok!” she replied smiling back and continued walk over to the boy. The boy was very surprised to see her there but took the scroll regardless. Jane or whatever his name is, was wobbling around. Probably because that was his first dimension jump.
“You good?” I asked grabbing his shoulder. At that moment Cavi came back and seemed excited.
“I’m...fine,” he replied with wide eyed, “I don’t want to do that again.”
“Fine by me. Cavi,” I called turning around, just as the door opened where the goddess of darkness and death, Uva emerged.
“WHY IS THERE A LIVING CHILD HERE?” she yelled, which made Cavi hide behind me. The pale goddess had her sleek black hair down all the way to her waist and was wearing a long, flowy lace dress, and her bare feet were stomping her way towards me.
“I’m babysitting,” I replied, bowing a little.
“And you brought it here knowing I can sense whether the being is living or dead yes?” she asked, now in front of me. She was the same height as me so we were at eye level.
“Yes,” I replied looking away.
“Leave him alone. It’s not their fault Azrael had to leave,” Cavi shouted from behind me, peeking from behind me to look her in the eye.
“Cavi..,” I warned, looking down at her.
“Oh it’s Azrael’s girl. Would you like to know how you die?” Uva asked her, grinning down at her.
“No ma’am. I would like you to leave Yurie alone,” Cavi replied bravely.
“Oh shit. It’s so polite,” Uva gasped, bending down to meet Cavi’s eyes, “How cute.”
“You can’t have her. My friend,” I growled, already knowing that she likes people who are polite.
“I won’t steal her. What species is she?” Uva asked poking at Cavi’s cheeks.
“Human. But she accidentally received a vampire heart instead of a human one when she was younger. So part vampire,” I replied, grabbing Cavi’s hand.
“Oh...OH, that one! I personally saw her created. Caden?” Uva replied, grabbing Cavi’s hand.
“Cavella…,” Cavi replied quietly.
“Bring her to visit anytime. Alright?” Uva ordered standing up, “But often. I like this one.”
“Yes…” I started to say but she already started walking away, “Ugh. Queen of leaving mid-sentence.”
“I heard that!” Uva replied turning around and glaring, “Take the girl home. Azrael’s worried about her. I’ll have an Escort find this soul for you.”
“Yes ma’am,” I replied bowing, then I picked up Cavella and we went back to dimension E-9.
