The King would be gone for hours of the day just watching Alice, and with the Red Queen as his wife, we will just say he was always happy to sneak away to see Alice instead of being around the Red Queen. Alice was the total opposite of his Red Queen in almost every way and I think that is why the King fell so madly in love with her, or maybe he was just mad.
He was fascinated with every aspect of her and wondered what it would be like to talk to her, to hold her, to see her smile in real life. Oh, the King wished she would smile more, it made his day lighter to bear. Thoughts of Alice never left the King's mind for long.
The King couldn't stand it anymore, so one night he snuck into the maze while the Red Queen was busy beheading her subjects. He followed behind Alice watching her from behind hedges and ducking when she would glance his way. Alice wasn't stupid, she knew that something was following her, so she laid a trap. Alice hid inside the thorn bushes, covered head to toe in welts with blood dripping from each gush, but she stayed in those bushes. The King chasing after Alice ran past the bush, and once his back was facing Alice she came out of the bush. Using one of its thorns as a knife, she snuck behind the King and put the thorn to his throat.
"You cannot hurt me with that. I am of royal blood, any intelligent creature knows that Beedom thorn can never injure a king." That irked Alice more than anything, of course any creatures would know, they been here their whole life, she on the other hand just accidentally stumbled into the land of the unknown.
She threw the thorn, the Beedom apparently, away and kicked the King in the knee. He fell to the ground, then Alice pushed his face into the dirt and put her leg on his back. Leaning towards his ear Alice asked, "As you can see, I do not need that stupid Beedoms to injure you. Now tell me, why were you following me and why shouldn't I smother you right now?"
Alice lifted the King's head enough to speak, "I can tell you all the secrets in the Queendom, teach you useful skills, what plants do what, let me live and I will be your teacher and you, my student." Knowledge, something Alice desperately needed to survive, to make it back home. Though she did not trust this king, she accepted his proposition, knowing she would not survive much longer with basic knowledge of Wonderland.
