Moth got Lucky down from the roof. This took a lot of effort. First he had to find how she got up to the grassy rooftop in the first place , then make plans to block it off later, struggle up their himself, find the lowest point , then basically throw Lucky off the roof. It wasn't a very high roof because Moth was a metre high dwarf, but Lucky did attempt to bite him for the rest of the evening.
Later , around the campfire, Moth huddles in his cloak, bushy eyebrows covering the view of the shimmering stars. Whilst Lucky bleeted in her shed, complaining about bed time , Moth contemplated his options.
Snifles is still not back, He thought. He has never been away for more than twelve hours before. This is worrying.maybe something spooked him in the night . Maybe he ran off. Maybe...just maybe..he went through the portal. If I can't find him in the woods, he has to be there. He won't have gont to the human town, will he? Should I go after him?
Well, what's the point of searching for my only assistance guarding the portal if there's no-one to protect it whilst we're gone ?And what would I do with lucky ?
He contemplated this , a turning ball of turmoil in his mind, until he realised the fire had died down and it was the middle of the night.
The next morning , he ate his home-made wheat flakes with goat's milk, wondering if he'd made the right decision after all that tossing and turning last night. But he had made a decision.
